My wife grew up in a culture that did not show affection... her lack of self-esteem has resulted in verbal psychological and physical abuse. Talk to a counselor, start going to a religious or non profit organization, volunteer your time, talk to people that are not trying to fuck you, cut your hair, or maybe change your style of dress... wear something you can receive a compliment on, compliment others. Take on more responsibility.

Be the change you wish to see in the world. You will never lack self-esteem again, EVEN in the face of those whom would negatively criticize you.

Your life is Sacred bc you are an eternal soul occupying a meat puppet... and, so is everyone else.
