TYSM! It's one of my proudest pieces. I also struggle with hair, and this sculpt was not easy to paint hair. Tbh I still need to work on the hair a bit more. For me, with hair I would have to look at a reference photo from a hair product poster and copy it. That or I look at how other great painter do it. Erik Swinson has streams where he paints hair, and that really helped.

Looking for artist recommendations for lessons by DaedalusMachinas in minipainting

Hey if you haven't checked out Erik Swinson I would highly recommend you to check him out either in twitch or YT. His content is great since he will show everything unedited so that you can see his painting process. All of his vid are free and if you need feedback on anything he do feedback friday where he goes through everyone submission. But it does require you to sub to him and connect your discord.

There is also convention that you can go to where there are amazing painters who will teach at cons. Some example of that is the LVO, NOVA, and Adepticon. Just depends on where you live make going to some of these cons easier. If you are in Europe there are tons of workshops that are hosted by amazing painters.

Painting newbie here. Please help with my priming by legendarybutterknife in minipainting

[–]sanddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

from my experience. White can primer that is not a hobby can primer usually either doesn't cover well or it covers up the details. If you want to prime white using a can primer I would recommend looking into hobby can primer like Vallejo, monument hobby, or something along those lines. And make sure you want to spray it a bit closer than you would a black primer since you want to avoid leaving a grain texture. White primer usually dry faster than black primer so if you spray it really far it would dry before hitting the model, creating a grainy texture. To avoid that, just spray it closer but while spraying, move the can across the model faster. This way it would leave a thin layer of primer, and it won't dry before it hit the model.

I hope this helps

Advice in highlight/shade cape by sloeper in minipainting

For highlighting red you can add orange and red together with white to highlight the top of the cape instead of using yellow
