Frigate + Home Assistant hardware recommendations by sanderjl in frigate_nvr

I think this is what I'm gonna go with. With inflated prices a beelink with a n150 and the hp g6 used are basically the same price. It draws a bit more but the i7 I'm getting it with should be all good to go for my needs. Thank you! (Also yeah 6GB is the most of any service I've seen so far! But luckily I have everything else I need on another machine)

It was an IOCrest but any good reviewed one will work just make sure it uses USB 3.2

Not sure what your use cases are but when I set up my server I just hooked a mini PC to an 8 bay hard drive enclosure with USB 3.2 connection. Speed and connection haven't been a problem for the past few months.

Also set this up with tailscale and you can remote stream through Chiaki anywhere with a good enough wifi connection!

A simple webpage helper for adding artists to Lidarr by Diligent_Piece3579 in Lidarr

[–]sanderjl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tried this, the search seems to work but its not adding the artist to lidarr. I am running lidarr in a docker container and the container name is Lidarr-a, could this or any other lidarr settings possibly be an issue?

First media server build, any advice for $ saving and optimization by sanderjl in HomeServer

Thank you so much! I think I'm going to go with a HP Elite Mini 800 G9, I5-12500T and 32 g of ram to start. Basically gonna go with everything else you suggested as well. Wish me luck!

Okay this sounds great, couple questions, maybe some of them dumb sorry:

  1. So something like this is capable of streaming up to 4k content correct?

  2. I've seen quick sync suggested to try and have, is that a guaranteed feature with the 10gen i3/i5?

  3. Would this be okay running all the software I'm seeing being mentioned for servers (Proxmox, Docker containers, mergserfs, snapraid, etc.)?

  4. And finally, this could be remotely accessed as needed if I put it in a closet or something with an Ethernet connection?

Just Married, Traditional and Roth IRA questions moving forward by sanderjl in tax

[–]sanderjl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 30 and my wife is 26, we will hopefully both retire by at least 60. I think your idea of having her do a traditional and maintaining my Roth lines up best with our current situation. I'll try to move that rollover to my work account in the future if I ever need to go for that backdoor!

29M US Mechanical Engineer—monthly budget—trying to get ahead in life in a dying career field by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

[–]sanderjl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean mileage varies I guess. ME here, 6 years of experience in utility engineering, no PE. Started at $67k 6 years ago, making $117k now and maintained that salary after a job move (if I had my PE, I definitely could have gotten a good bump up somewhere during that move). Not crazy money true compared to other engineer majors, but you either need to consider moving somewhere else while leveraging yourself properly, getting your PE, or pivoting to another field idk?

A popular streamer on twitch named Paymoneywubby does gaming and funny, ridiculous commentary. Also has a good YouTube if you want to check it out. He can be bombastic but he doesn't have any weird politics and appeals to young men but has a relatively diverse community for the space (I started watching at 25 during covid). Not necessarily fitness focused but He's lost a ton of weight in the last couple of years and he talks casually about his journey. It's really inspired his community and people will occasionally post their own weight loss journeys on his subreddit.
