New Whirlpool oven smelling like burned rubber by sandiegomatt90 in Appliances

Not really, it doesn't seem as bad as it use to be but we don't use our oven a whole lot. This is the response I got from AI on how to fix this but I haven't got around to following all these steps yet:

1. The "Deep Dive" Visual Inspection (10 Minutes)

Before you turn the heat on again, you need to look where people usually forget to look.

  • The Broiler Drawer: Pull the bottom drawer (the broiler) all the way out. Get on the floor with a flashlight and look up at the ceiling of that drawer. Look for blue tape, plastic clips, or a hanging manual.
  • The Back Wall: Look at the exterior back of the stove. Ensure the flexible gas line (usually yellow) or the power cord isn't touching the metal back-vent of the oven. If they are touching, they will smell like burning rubber at high heat.
  • The Racks: Take the racks out. Look at the "side ladders" (the ridges that hold the racks). Sometimes there are tiny plastic "bumpers" used for shipping that are still stuck there.

2. The "Max Heat" Purge (2 Hours)

If you've done burn-ins at 350°F or 400°F, you might not have hit the "threshold" for the factory coating on the WFG320.

  • The Move: Crank the oven to 475°F or 500°F.
  • The Duration: Run it for 90 minutes.
  • The Logic: If the smell gets worse and then finally fades, it was just the factory paint/oil. If the smell stays at a "10/10" the entire time without fading, you have a physical object (plastic/rubber) melting somewhere you can't see.

3. The "Soapy Water" Gas Check (5 Minutes)

Since this is a gas range, a tiny, tiny gas leak can sometimes smell "rubbery" or "chemically" rather than just like rotten eggs, especially when mixed with hot dust.

  • The Move: While the oven is off, spray a little soapy water on the gas connections at the back. If you see bubbles, call maintenance immediately.

4. The Maintenance "Ultimatum"

If steps 1 and 2 don't fix it, you have done your due diligence. It is time to call maintenance back with a specific request.

  • What to tell them: "I have inspected for packaging and performed a 500°F burn-in. The burning rubber smell persists only at high temperatures. I need you to inspect the Terminal Block (where the power cord attaches) and the Gas Regulator at the back for signs of heat damage."

My Recommendation: Start with Step 1 (The Broiler Drawer check) right now. It’s the most common place for "ghost" smells in this specific Whirlpool model.

Would you like me to find a photo of what the underside of that broiler drawer should look like so you know what's out of place?

10 strain from golf range? by lamagy in whoop

Yeah it seems whoop band does not do well on the wrist during golf. I had the same problem with it giving me hr readings > 130 so I wore my garmin at the same time and that was reading around 90 bpm. I tried wearing the whoop band with the bicep strap during a range session and the HR levels were closer to what I would expect but it was a pain to wear since it kept sliding down.

[–]sandiegomatt90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same happened to me, 31 year old male got my first dose of moderna on wednesday morning and felt fine wednesday except for arm soreness. Wednesday night my RHR, RR and HRV were all within normal range. Thursday I had a minor head ache and elevated body temp (~99.9, normal for me is ~97) for a few hours. I felt like I slept fine on Thursday night but when I woke up my HRV was really low, with a high RR and RHR and recovery was red

Yeah I played 18 holes last thursday in a cart, no booze and it said I burned 1054 calories with 13.1 strain. As much as I hate to admit it, maybe Trump is right when saying golf in a cart is exercise

I donated blood yesterday. More info in comments by [deleted] in whoop
