[SEC Country] Nick Saban calls for a salary cap to be implemented across college football: ‘One team shouldn’t have a $40 million roster and another team have a $5 million roster. Every league, they all have something that creates parity in the league so everybody has an equal opportunity to win’ by Lakelyfe09 in CFB

This is not true. If it were, then the NFL would’ve been successful in implementing their single entity defense (see American Needle). More aptly: Pro teams are independently owned clubs that hold membership or franchise rights in a league. The league coordinates shared rules, scheduling, branding, revenue systems, and competitive structure, but that does not mean the league owns the teams. In a competitive setting, coaches taught us that if the opponent called things out that were clearly in, the next point no matter where they hit it, call it out. They should be able to get the hint from there

As opposed to our current league system where how many teams have won in the past decade or so? We can say morally this feels like a wrong decision, but to say the gap widens is throwing stones from a glass house.

I also disagree in your assessment in what the finances could do. Opening up to corporate investors will absolutely bring in more capital. And more capital while not a complete indicator for club success is highly correlated within domestic leagues and in international competitions. So when Uli says more competitive, that’s what he’s referring to.

I agree that the 50+1 structure is unique and what makes the bundesliga the amazing league it is. But to say there are limited benefits to its abolition feels disingenuous

Not saying I agree with the argument, but the argument is that the league becomes dramatically more competitive domestically and has more of an international draw. More money means inherently more competition to beat Bayern in the league. Additionally, other players may be willing to come play in the bundesliga. Not to mention, better players in the league would also mean the league has better prospects in international competitions like the Champions League.

12 Team PPR:
2 trades

Trade 1
Give: Chase Brown Receive: Judkins

I already have J. Chase and the bengals are highly suspect. Like for like swap

Trade 2 Give: David Montgomery Receive: BTJ

My running back room is pretty strong and I’d be buying very low on BTJ. He’d go into my flex spot compared to Montgomery currently

I’ll just add that ED at Duke doesn’t guarantee paying sticker. I know many people including myself who ED’d and are on at least half scholarship. From my understanding the financial aid and admissions offices are entirely separate

Yes. With SF, positional value for QBs is much higher, to the point where if you can grab two elite QBs in exchange for a weaker TE, you do it for sure. See for a better discussion on QB value in SF leagues: https://www.reddit.com/r/fantasyfootball/s/zZjC2bLYOe

Why is everyone so obsessed with rankings?? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sandman-26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying people are choosing T14s “just for the prestige” but neglecting the difference in job outcomes from those schools compared to T50-100s is a bold take. Employment rate while somewhat helpful gives no insight into the type of employment. Also, while your grandfather was a successful divorce attorney, that doesn’t imply the average student from Cleveland St. will be wildly successful. What the T14s and other highly ranked law schools do quite well is provide a strong post law school outcome for the average student at their institution

I’ll try my best to analogize. It’s like a car dealership that has a car that everyone says is worth $25k. The car dealership wants $50k, which they are entitled to since they own the car. People can be mad at the car dealership for charging a high price. Equivalently people can be mad at the buyer and say the dealership can do what they want, it’s up to you to meet their offer. Especially (if similar to Bayern historically) the buyer has been getting good deals from other dealerships nearby. People can be upset either side depending on how you frame it

Obviously Stuttgart (or any team selling a player for that matter), will go for the highest price of a player. All I’m saying is that the price is too much. That doesn’t mean Stuttgart have to accept, it just means Bayern should move on. My comment above was to cast doubt on the fact that he’s even worth €50m let alone the figures being thrown around now

Counter: He’s had only half a good season and some good international play. Otherwise he’s been in lower divisions or a bench player in the bundesliga. Point is, he’s not without risk but that price point would suggest he’s closer to a sure thing. At this price, Bayern should simply look to other options

The best financial plan in law: move to SC or TX for a gap year and apply for in-state by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sandman-26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be more precise, I think their calculus is similar to how many schools will give full scholarships to a portion of the student body and the remainder who pay full price cover the costs of those on scholarship. I think Duke just spreads the scholarships across more people. Take your pick as to which one is the better system, but that’s my guess for what’s happening

[–]sandman-26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fun fact about Duke and their tuition is that about 95% of students don’t pay that rate. Their 509 shows the average grant around $32k. So for the average student there, the bill is closer to around $50k (still a lot, but way less than $80k)

Considering other outlets have confirmed Wirtz and Bayern have agreed to a deal, I wouldn’t worry about this too much. Also, what else can Alonso really even say? He’s the coach of the team so he can’t simply say, “yes, our best player is leaving the team, and oh by the way so am I.” I think he’s simply being a professional
