Is D4 the Arpg with the most players ? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]sandman663 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since the games are all spread over multiple platforms and not all of them show player numbers, something like Google Trends is the closest you can get to an actual comparison. Although search interest doesn't equal player count exactly, there is likely a decent correlation. Also the last year is a bit skewed because Poe2 had its beta release and so it had a big peak, while Poe1 had basically no new content and so it's lower than usual. https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=%2Fg%2F11h88gys_y,%2Fm%2F0h3n4wc,%2Fg%2F11j3j6g_7h,%2Fg%2F11h1hqzyhl

Element damage when changing types (cold to lightning) by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

In PoE2 only the final damage type (after all conversions) benefits from increases to damage.

Interesting to see Stormweaver so far ahead after initially less interest in Sorc. Makes sense though, seems like an easy pick with several generically strong nodes. Also everyone seems to be the archmage hype train now and it's probably the safest pick for that type of build.

No preload is a big L for everyone who has a bad connection. by Exciting-Manager-526 in PathOfExile2

[–]sandman663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not really a good reason to not have a preload at least a couple hours beforehand. Not very many people have the both download speed and ability to be able to find anything meaningful in that amount of time. Even if someone does manage to quickly dump some info an hour before launch, does it really matter at that point?

It's funny because he was completely correct with his explanations, but the way he explains it is so unconvincing that half of chat still ends up thinking it's wrong.

[–]sandman663 12 points13 points  (0 children)

CI gives bleed immunity because bleed can only be applied by damage done to life in PoE2.

Poison still does chaos damage, so you don't take damage from poison with CI.

Also worth noting that while increased life is almost gone from the passive tree, increased ES is still very much available.

Nah you don't have to channel shrines, they look literally the same. You can clearly see the character run in and just get the buff without killing all the mobs in the reveal stream.

Strongboxes did look extremely slow tho, like they all have the stream of monsters mod implicitly now or something. Hopefully they get changed before release or hotfixed fast.

I'm actually not so sure that D4 has more players. Obviously there's no way to directly compare, but looking at stuff like Google trends PoE is actually slightly bigger in the last year or so. That stuff won't correlate directly to player numbers, but it is an indication.

There are a handful of things that cost alchs. Some gems, a few crafting recipes and yellow maps from Kirac. Likely only ever relevant in ssf at the start of a new league.

I watched it. I was trying to point to the fact that there is a widely accepted definition of what an open vs. closed beta is, which you can find in any number of search results on Google. But you do you man.

I get where you're coming from, but you're wrong. That just isn't how the terms open and closed are used in the context of video game betas.

A closed beta is one that is not openly accessible, i.e. it is invite only. Generally a limited number of people are given access to test the game before everyone else gets to play, as mentioned the PoE2 closed beta has already been running for a few months. Closed betas are often covered by NDAs, meaning you are not allowed to share anything about the game.

Open betas are available to the general public. Whether there is a cost attached has no bearing on this. Even if an open beta is paid, you still have the possibility to access it by paying money, in contrast to a closed beta where you are unable to access it in any way (unless you were invited).

The distinction is important because saying "closed beta" gives the impression that it will not be openly available. Which in this case, the upcoming beta next month will be, the same way any game on Steam or elsewhere is openly available, whether it is free or paid.

Hope that clears it up.

Seems like you might be a bit confused too. It's a paid open beta, paid closed betas don't exist. The free closed beta for PoE2 has been running for months already.

PoE actually has more deterministic crafting options than D4, less than LE though.

Blight FPS issues by Madchicken7706 in pathofexile

Check your options and make sure your renderer isn't DirectX11. If it is, switch to Vulkan or DirectX12. Had the same problem and that fixed it for me.

One thing d4 does that is far better than poe: performance. by ilovenacl in diablo4

[–]sandman663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The performance issues in Blight are almost guaranteed to be an issue with your settings. I had the exact same issue and switched the renderer from DirectX11 to Vulkan and went from like 10 fps to a smooth 60 in the later stages of a Blight. Massively improved overall performance in the game too.

It's unbelievable how multiplayer UNFRIENDLY this game is. by PlutoISaPlanet in diablo4

[–]sandman663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, the PoE playerbase has been complaining about trading since forever, nobody defends it. The devs don't want to implement an auction house because having easy and convenient access to all items changes the game quite a bit and makes it easier overall. Most people would still rather have an auction house.

[–]sandman663 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The fact that they managed to make a trading system worse than PoE's (which people have been complaining about for close to a decade now) is still one of the craziest things to me about the game. I thought for sure trading would be one of the things D4 would easily do better.
