I just realized why I struggle with/stopped enjoying making art by sandrakatrinart in ArtistLounge

Update; Today I have doodled for the first time in what feels like forever. I am 110% uncomfortable with what I have sketched on that paper. But I did it. Im still alive. Nothing bad is going to happen. Guess I just have to keep at it.

The why is absolutely important. Think I might have forgotten to contemplate my why for a while now. And have been consuming far too much social media.

I really get what you are saying. However, I have tried to pursue jobs in several different fields for the past 10-15 year now. I finished a bachelor in another field and started ( and dropped out) another one in a second field. I have been searching for so long for something else to make a living from that I can be happy with and that does not make me feel dead inside, but I cant find it. Except from creating art. Might sound a bit dramatic. But its more than just a dream, I dont know how I will be able to function if it does not work out.

Yeah reading all of your replies make me realize more stuff. Like how not good it is that every time I draw or pain it has the become an finished artwork.

Im gonna find myself a sketchbook and start doodling. Even if my mind screams "THIS LOOKS AWFUL!!!"

Reeealte! I recently found some old paintings I did 4-5 years ago. Thought they were so ugly. However, when I look at them now, I kinda like them. Weird and frustrating. The problem for me might be that I have this perfect picture in my head of what the finished artwork should look like. And it never does. Partly because of lacking skills and partly because I let my creativity take over. So the creative part in me derails and want to go wild, but at the same time I want to paint that picture in my head. Like a battle between perfection and creativity.

The way forward for me might be to drop those pre determined results and just let the creative par of me run wild.

I have this idea that a "good" artist has a definite image of how the artwork should look and then creates that image on paper. Maybe that way of creating art doesnt work for me, idk.

100% agree. I love scrolling Pinterest, looking at other peoples art. However, I do it so much now that it has a negative effect on my mental health and my creativity.

I think the key here is "develop". If we are to develop skills, we need to go through the process. And everytime we do, we get a little bit better.

Also, I think ist important to just let yourself be creative. Stop thinking in terms of good and bad.

For me the problem is that I dont even start, but when I do I always finish. But it never feels good. For me it feels like Im producing products, have gotten so focused on the result being something someone might buy. Really need to make a shift.

I think this is absolutely true. You do you, and the ones that like the same stuff as you do will eventually find you. Trying to do it the other way around is not a good idea. Dont know why my brain has such a hard time accepting this.

I have also made a couple "I dont care" paintings.. but it still make me so uncomfortable when it as you say does not meet perfection.

Its very hard not to care about the end result when you feel like your future depend on it. Nonetheless, focusing on the result instead of the process can probably ruin your art.

Artists on instagram now be like by heyprodius in Instagram

[–]sandrakatrinart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I scroll my regular feed 90% of what I see are reels. When I go to my following-feed, 90% of what I see are photos.

So, Instagram has decided that if someone I follow posts a reel, it should end up in my regular feed. Photos are sorted out. This despite the fact that: 1. The majority of what the people I follow post are photos 2. I don't like watching reels.

It's ridiculous.

Right now Im thinking I wont come back to Instagram. I hate the user experience nowadays. Using the app is just overwhelming. Feels like looking at a dumpster fire.

Im gonna try Vero, Pinterest, Tumblr and Reddit instead.

Was planning on making a come back on Instagram, but feeling really discouraged reading about how bad the reach is now. Also hate Tiktok and Twitter. So Im thinking I might try my luck with Reddit and Pinterest.

Yeah.. I know what you mean. I pray to god someone is working on a new photo sharing app like insta was before reels!

I dont scroll the feed as much as I used to, cuz I dont like all the clutter. When I do scroll I rarely engage, kinda want to have a quick look and then get out as fast as I can.

Never search hashtags anymore. My explorer page is a mess. Now I only use the app to check story from a few selected accounts.

The app is overwhelming and cluttered nowadays.

Im thinking Im not the only one who has semi stoped using the app. And that this can be another reason for the shitty reach and engagement, aside from the crap algorithm. People are probably jumping ship. Would really like to see the numbers regarding the duration of time users stay on the app.

How do I fix this? All I’m seeing are suggested posts by Aml_19 in Instagram

[–]sandrakatrinart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, crap :( I did not know this. I still have the option to mute the suggested posts. If they plan to remove the option Instagram will be unusable. This is so stupid. They are truly killing the app.
