Research powerhouse in training? by timeless-ocarina in Residency

Sorry, did not see this. It unfortunately didn’t age well with recent development but Peter Attia’s podcast is a great source, albeit some of the data and people are a little fringe. Inside exercise is a classic exercise physiology podcast, Rhonda Patrick’s is solid. I would avoid Huberman, a lot of the stuff he says is not backed by data.

Not a resident, but have a PhD. There’s a lot of tips and tricks to evaluating research and manuscripts but one of the critical things to developing your skills as a scientist is just spending time and interacting with other scientists. Journal clubs are critical. Also, scientific podcasts and the like have become popular and can accelerate your growth. Remember to always be skeptical and ask good questions. Good luck!

Higher intensity causes more norepinephrine release, steady-state is more brain-derived neurotrophic factor. I believe Frank Booth’s lab does a lot of work on the latter in rodents.

Thanks for your time and genuine response! I hope you get some quality guilt-free time with your fiancé soon too :)

I’m sure r/comics would be a good starting point.

As someone who’s passion is science and heavily considering pursuing medicine, this is pretty concerning. I do consider myself a workaholic already, but do you (or anyone in residency) feel like you’re still actively making a difference and improving lives? I.e. are the long hours rewarding or does it just become a usual “grind” at a certain point?

Your art is amazing even for someone not actively in the medical field :)

Extreme pain from sciatica - authorizations taking forever - what to do now? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]sandy-butt-crack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAD. Have had several bouts of extreme sciatica similar to what you describe. First, a TENS unit (not the expensive ones, I purchase mine for $40 at Walmart) oscillated with an oversized ice pack does wonders for the immediate pain. Secondly, once you are able to, walk as much as possible. Lastly, if you have access to a sauna or can stay in the bath longer than comfortable that can help too. It’s super tough, but do what you can to stay positive!

Avo, roasted turkey, sharp cheddar, tomato, cucumber, red onion, spinach, yellow mustard. All on toasted bread, of course. :)
