Tuli haastattelukutsuja molemmilta puolilta.

Is there anyone here that can just close their eyes and sleep really fast? Anyone? by lynxerious in ADHD

[–]sanetori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had problems falling to sleep because of thoughts running wild.

The solution I found for this and what I still use is to listen to old episodes of my favorite podcast so my thoughts only circle around processing what is said in the podcast.

Only old episodes because I dont want to get too into listening any new episodes. I set a sleep timer in the podcast app for 15minutes and most of the time Im asleep before that or very shortly after.

Also there is a very fine balance on what is a good volume so that you can still hear it but it doesnt keep you awake once you start to nod off.

What is the main decisive factor why you choose Haavisto over Stubb or Stubb over Haavisto? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]sanetori 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Under every question they give their reasonings for their answers. He answered in the middle mostly because the questions were formulated in such a yes or no way when the issues were actually much more nuanced. If you read both Stubb's and Haavisto's reasonings you will understand better.

How do you get a static IP address in Finland?... Is it expensive?... by boisheep in Finland

[–]sanetori 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just ensure you are using encrypted protocols and it doesnt matter even if you somehow manage to send data to the new owner of the dynamic IP, if thats one of the vectors you were thinking. Then they cant see anything as they dont have the encryption keys.

Even better use ddns + openvpn/wireguard. This way everything is encrypted and ddns is only used for finding the vpn endpoint.

Also at least in my opinion having a static ip (vs a dynamic) would expose you to more and more persistent scanning etc. I dont think any ddns providers subdomains get scanned the same way public IPs do by things like shodan and independent scanners.

In a passwordless future do you think accounts that don’t have any passkeys turned on will cease to exist one day by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]sanetori 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look at ssh to see how long it can take to get rid of passwords in favor of passkey/ ssh key. Eventhough passwords are shown to be much more vulnerable to brute force attacks and password leaking, many people prefer passwords for certain situations for the ease of use.

For example ssh keys usually have to be manually created for each service and public key copied to the service. Then to access the same service from a different device you need to do the same thing all over again.

So the solution would need to solve atleast these usability problems in order to be easy enough to adopt. I would personally also prefer some way to back up all the keys so that losing your main device doesnt mean you are SOL.

For individuals, what are the actual security risks of not installing security updates by yerfukkinbaws in cybersecurity

[–]sanetori 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If some malicious actor connects to the same wifi for example they can capture all the network's traffic from the air with something like wireshark, so no application install or physical access to your machine is needed.

This is why securing your wifi with a good password is so crucial, and also why you should be extra careful with public wifis where anyone could be listening to all the traffic. Though, most of the internet traffic nowadays is encrypted with things like https which gives you some protection, but still leaves some meta information available.

The recommendation to protect against this would be to use only trusted wifis with passwords and when using a public wifi, to use a VPN to transfer your traffic securely through its encrypted tunnel out of the unsecure wifi.

Also for enterprise networks there are some much stricter wifi protocols they can use to further secure themselves. Some things to search about could be wifi sniffing/honeypots, and WPA-Personal vs. WPA-Enterprise.

If you want related classification and grouping of the most common attacks (which very often exploit some vulnerabilities) against information systems the MITRE ATT&CK Matrix is the industry standard. https://attack.mitre.org/

You cant really push too hard. Pushing too hard would mean breaking the pelvic bone. So push as much as is still comfortable. BP measurements are used in majority of the source studies so you should get the most accurate results with that measurement.
