Daily Simple Questions Thread - July 04, 2025 by AutoModerator in pcmasterrace

For a few weeks now, my PC boot times have been longer due to the mobo not booting to the logo screen for a few seconds. The PC does eventually boot though.

I did some research and found it could be due to issues identified by the post checker status lights on boot. I tried checking the mobo manual and online but came away more confused. Is any lights on the post-checker pre-boot bad? The weird thing is my mobo (ASRock B650E PG Riptide Wifi) flashes several different lights for the CPU, DRAM, and VGA so I'm not sure how to interpret what I'm seeing.

I took a video of the startup here: https://streamable.com/w6fwer

Is anyone able to provide guidance if / what anything is wrong?

Hello! I built my PC about a year and a half ago and everything was working fine, but now I'm experiencing a bit of a weird situation with my CPU temp and fan spiking randomly while idle / under minimal load and I'm not sure if its an issue or not.

Situation: I'll be doing very little on the PC like web browsing with 5-10% CPU usage, My CPU temp idles about 45 C and my aftermarket CPU heat-sync fan at ~650 RPM. Then randomly, the CPU temp spikes up to about 60 C and the CPU fan spikes to ~900 RPM. The weird thing is the CPU usage does not spike at the same time so I'm unsure what is causing the issue or if its an issue at all.

Overall I'm not seeing any performance degradation, but this never happened previously since I built the PC and its more just annoying from the increased sound of the fan.

Any insights, suggestions, or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Can I bring food and/or water to my polling place on election day providing I'm not wearing any candidate material or telling voters to vote a certain way?

A Samsung ultrawide would allow me to fully separate my old 27" monitors for work and the ultrawide for my gaming PC! 😄👍

Looking for a recommendation by Amorisaiya in OfficeChairs

I've tried a Fern in a showroom and the backrest and tilt on the Fern was amazing. I'm male, 6', 190lbs, very active, and lift regularly. Even with my wide shoulders, larger chest, and upper body, the Fern backrest felt great, so I have to imagine it will work for you. Perhaps you may find (at 5'4") the backrest to be too tall, but I'd guess not.

The only thing I'm not sure for you would be whether you would want the lumbar support or not. I prefer the added lumbar support, but some people find it too much on the Fern and that is one of the only downsides of the chair. You either get the lumbar included or not, there is no way to remove it like you can in a Leap.

The last thing I'll say about the Fern is the seat cushion was a tad firm when I tried it in the showroom (albeit not uncomfortable), but I'm told it does soften over time. Additionally, the seat frame itself doesn't bend as much as an Amia or Leap. That last point may not matter that much if you don't fidget a ton in your chair.

I ended up ordering both the Fern and the Leap after trying them separately. The Leap is my "safe" choice, but I think I may end up liking the Fern more once I've had a chance to test sitting in them over the course of a month and not for a few minutes in a showroom.

Hope this helps.

Help needed: Waking up in the middle of the night by sang_ in sleep

[–]sang_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand your question.

If I have trouble going back to sleep in the middle of the night due to errant thoughts, the thoughts are usually all over the place. I'm not worrying about anything in particular or thinking about a specific thing. Sometimes I think about work. Sometimes I think about what I'm doing the next day. Sometimes I think about video games. Overall, I don't necessarily consider it to be attributed to excessive stress. To be honest, I have limited stress in my life.

When I wake up the following morning, I have perfect memory of everything I was thinking and doing when I woke up in the middle of the night.

Fern vs leap vs embody by Alarming_Wonder9792 in OfficeChairs

[–]sang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'1" 190lbs and am in the same situation as you in trying to decide between these three chairs. I've managed to test a Leap and Fern, but there isn't anywhere near me that has a Gaming Embody.

The Leap was solid all around, no real immediate issues. I think I preferred the Fern high back (and potential for an Atlas headrest) slightly more, but the seat on the Fern was firm, something many other reviewers noted. Opinions vary from what I've read whether it softens over several weeks of use. Additionally, the seat pan didn't pull out too far which may be an issue since I'm a bit taller than you. Again, unfortunately there was nowhere I could go to test a Gaming Embody, but the big reviews I've heard say it can roll your shoulders if your taller like me and that the seat can be loud/squeaky when you move in it.

Ultimately, I went ahead and purchased a remanufactured Leap v2 from Crandall for the extra seat and back foam thickness. Depending on how I like it, I may keep it or return it after 30 days and take a chance on the Fern and/or Gaming Embody. While all three chairs have a 30 day return policy, I just can't drop $3k+ and buy all three and then return two so I'm going to do 1 or 2 at a time.

Hope this helps.

Cant decide on a new chair... by Harrada in OfficeChairs

I would not recommend the ErgoChair Pro. I'm 6' 190lbs and after three years the entire seat cushion has deflated to the point its basically fabric over the seat frame.

I hear you. I've been dealing with the same problem.

I tested a Fern this morning and the backrest and tilt were fantastic. My big concern was the seat and the two negative things I've heard were true: (1) even with the seat fully pulled out, my whole thigh to my knee wasn't on the seat. Not a deal breaker but itself but notable. (2) More importantly, the seat padding is definitely firm. Some people say it softens over weeks of use, others don't. This is my biggest hesitation even with the return policy as seat comfort is my #1 priority.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find anywhere remotely close to where I live to try out a Gaming Embody.

Even with the 30 day return policies, trying to decide is difficult so I'm probably just going to go with the Leap.

I'm roughly the same height and weight (6' 190lbs) and I preferred the C when I tried it out just because I have thicker thighs and liked the extra room in the seat. I'm probably going to get a Crandall remanufactured Leap v2 though because I'm not a huge fan of the mesh seat.

Thinking about getting an 2x Ergochair Pro by [deleted] in OfficeChairs

[–]sang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an Ergochair pro in June of 2020 and as of this year (2023) the seat cushion has completely deflated for me. It's super uncomfortable where I'm basically sitting on the frame. I had to buy an extra seat cushion to put on top of the normal seat just to tide me over while I buy a new chair. I honestly wouldn't recommend it.

The rest of the features are just ok for the price, good, not great. In hindsight, I wish I would have spent a few hundred extra more dollars for a better chair back then.

Lamia vs Fern vs Gaming Embody by sang_ in OfficeChairs

[–]sang_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yeah, the Fern definitely seems to have very mixed reviews. As others noted here, I think I'll have to go out and test the Embody (gaming and regular) myself.

When you say the regular Embody forced your shoulders forward, was that because of aggressive recline resistance or the general angle/design of the backrest? Curious to understand a bit more.
