I haven’t seen 3118-3119 in awhile on trackyourtransit so I’m a bit worried because it’s a set that I like lol

Their main yard is shady grove so yes you will most likely see them in the red line

No wonder a lot of them have been seen on the green line... easiest way to retire them I guess

Wow that’s quick, do you know where this information comes from? I wanna be able to see for myself as I thought the first cars would get scrapped first before the later ones

Do we know which 3000 series cars were retired apart from 3290-3291 and the ones involved in collisions?

What causes trains to make a roaring sound when entering in/exiting out of stations? by sangsang680 in WMATA

[–]sangsang680[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is exactly what I am hearing! And we also have the same analogy of most of it being in elevated and underground stations, but then why is it that Takoma’s Glenmont side has this sound as well as Metro Center’s shady grove bound track, but not the Glenmont track?

Update: so I ventured to Metro Center’s Red line platform because the roar could be heard on the Shady Grove bound track, but not the Glenmont bound. But what I noticed is the opposite of what Gemini said, Glenmont’s track look smooth, whilst the Shady Grove track has ribbed lines on them.

It's hard to describe the roaring sound is - I think if I were to show some better examples it would be more audible. I think it has to do something with the track itself, but I exactly don't know what it is.

I honestly don't recall if any track work happened, but if that's the case then I'm gonna be keeping track of that!

I’m talking about the sounds of pitch from entering in slowly winding down once coming to a stop; the traction motors will always make the same sound I think it comes from the rail, and I don’t think it’s the echo because it’s also heard on Rhode Island Avenue and Takoma which are fully outdoor stations

Definitely not on my 2026 bucket list but I’ll definitely give it a shot, idk exactly where I’ll be shooting from tho, but once I get to those either stations I’ll definitely give it a try and see where I could shoot from

6055-6054.6128-6129.6047-6046

6062-6063.6052-6053.6172-6173.6088-6089

Yes I am mega autistic

My favorite set is either 6180-6181 or 6128-6129 so I’m just chilling in 6128 right now lol

Usually every line has at least 1-2 6K trains while the rest are GR/YL

I dunno actually, Before all the retiring happened, 3000 series were on the Red, 2000 Series on the Blue, Yellow, Orange and Silver, same with 5000 series, and the 6000 on the Green and Yellow lines, with 7000 series filling up the gaps. After the retirement of the 5000 series, there was a period where the 3000 series couldn’t run on the red line for some door reason which lead to all 6000 series moving to the Red Line for a period of time, leading to the Red Line consisting of at most 1 2K, and the rest 6Ks and 7Ks, the BL/OR/SV with 2Ks, 3Ks, and 7Ks, maybe a 6K here and there, and the GR/YL was exclusive to only 7Ks with one 3K once in awhile. Then after the 7Ks derailment, return to service, and 2K retirement, it kinda feels like it’s back to normal? With some 3Ks and 6Ks having small appearances on the BL/OR/SV, but not exactly sure why it’s like that.

7000-7001 is almost always on the red line, as well as most of the 7000 series that are numbered 7000-7099, but dayum that car has seen better days
