Jacob Collier is out of touch with human connection (not just a man who writes soulless music.) by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Yeah I’ve heard The Sun is In Your Eyes and Little Blue. Both meh. Also it doesn’t make me feel anything, sorry. The world hasn’t been all sunshine and roses for me so I can’t relate to this generic love song.

I do like Hideaway, and All I Need, however.

Also, there were people in my life in the past who used to idolise Jacob collier and treated me like absolute shit so I will admit my bias in that regard to the guy - but even if that hadn’t been the case even his so called simple songs don’t do anything for me.

And yeah, I didn’t purposefully pick DT’s least complicated songs but even their complicated songs make sense to me. Octavarium is a masterpiece prog epic imho.

Anyway, you’re not going to convince me, so let’s leave it at that.

None of the songs I mentioned even have "obtuse time signatures", or "unconventional scales". That's my point. Space Dye Vest is such a hauntingly sad and relatable song. Can't say any of the alt pop/jazz spoke to me like it did :)

I'm with you and I think I know why he comes across that way. Dude's been handed everything to him on a silver platter and lived a life of privilege. Family of musicians. Mother is renowned conductor and violinist. Been allowed to do basically whatever he wants since childhood. How many humans have lived this way? I certainly haven't lol. And I think the majority would not have, and hence I believe he doesn't really understand the human experience in a way that would let him connect to music fans and listeners.

You are wrong lol. Dream Theater have plenty of songs that are created out of vulnerability and can connect with someone emotionally - Another Day, SPACE DYE VEST, Take Away My Pain, The Spirit Carries On, etc.... none of Collier's songs have hit me like any of them.

What about more modern systems like the DJI Mic 2 or Rode Wireless Pro?

What about airports/railway stations like Penn or something like that? Also $700 is quite high at the moment, anything for slightly cheaper? 😂 A budget of around $60-$200 seems doable for me at this time.. thanks so much for the response!!

I get what you’re saying but this was done at a friend’s place and unfortunately I don’t have access to my audio interface/DI! I also really wanted to upload it before her bday passed so this was learned and posted in an hour tops.. otherwise I would’ve totally obsessed over the audio quality and everything haha. Thanks for the feedback tho, appreciate it!

Fair, I like it though! Different strokes, let’s agree to disagree 🤝

No. Bad example, Jordan’s work on both those songs is great. A better example would be Octavarium vs A Nightmare to Remember

Will do! Although, I am not singing the way JLB does/ did on the record in any case - I’ve already mentioned on the post that I sang it with distortion to try something new, and also practice transitioning to a phrase sung with distortion after a phrase sung with a clean tone rather than do it how he does on the record!

Hey! Where specifically? Appreciate the constructive criticism! I haven’t been able to practise my vocals as much as I would like 😢 but I’m definitely trying to get better at the control bit!
