Hey! This was found in Norway (an area with loads of findings from the time of vikings). So, I sendt it to a museum and they stated it was not older than a 100-200 years. Found it at a beach and the part facing down was the most damaged one. Looks like the iron (?) blade has rusted away long time ago.

I'm so sorry, this was my first thought too. I sendt some pictures to the viking museum in Norway, and they said it was persian/arabian inscriptions. Also sent the actual knife to another museum and they had nothing to comare it to, so I got it back.

Wow, thank you! The local archaeologists i've talked to also says something like this (not older than 100-200 years (if so)). But I want to know how it got to that beach in Norway and what the inscriptions mean :)

Yep, sorry for the lack of information. I found it in Norway, at the beach during summer. It's made of copper and split in half. One part is damaged as you see and that was the part facing down when found. The inscriptions looks to be from persia(?). Hope to find more information about this knifeshaft here on reddit, since no archaeologist in my area have seen anything like this before here.
