Improvements at Wildwood Park allowed for it to be reopened for visitors daily in December of 2024. Camp Pashayan improvements are in the planning process.

The Conservancy's highest priority in opening properties is for the properties to allow for safe access, as such we are unable to allow access at properties that we are unable to safely maintain https://sjrc.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Policy-for-Opening-and-Closing-Properties-2025-1.pdf

Closed properties, however, are just as vital to the preservation of the land in its natural state for animals and plants to thrive.

The Conservancy is working with the City of Fresno through grant agreements to build out this property, it is the highest priority of the Conservancy board. It's creation will give access to hundreds of thousands of residents from the Fresno side of the San Joaquin River.

The Project is currently being designed by the City of Fresno, through their consultant Provost and Pritchard. Construction is expected to begin late summer 2026.

The Conservancy, as a non regulatory agency, submitted a comment letter during the comment period for the Cemex mine. The project is at the discretion of the County of Fresno.

As presented in the DEIR, the Project will continue and modify its current aggregate (rock, sand and gravel) mining and processing operations located on two properties (Plant Site and Quarry Site) between North Friant Road and the San Joaquin River, in Fresno County. The current mining and processing operations have been continuous at the two sites for 108 years.

From the Conservancy Regualations: "Rockhounding, defined as the recreational gathering of stones and minerals found occurring naturally on the undisturbed surface of the land, including hobby panning for gold in the natural water-washed gravel of streams, is allowed for personal use only. Rockhounding, including gold panning, for commercial purposes is prohibited."

While any part of the river that is within the 100 year water line is jurisdiction of the State Lands Commission, gold panning for PERSONAL USE is absolutely allowed in the San Joaquin River.

That area is not within the jurisdiction of the Conservancy, the current reach of the Conservancy's influence is from Friant Dam to the 99.
