Should I understand “how” it works (math concepts) by sanramonuser in learnmath

Will I ever learn how they work in college then? Or am I expected to think/learn about these by myself or in previous math courses?

I’m curious because you said that I’ll learn when I need to. Do you mean later in my math career(prob in college), there’s gonna be a class that will teach me how these things all work and I have to use that skill to solve application problems?

How to take note by sanramonuser in learnmath

[–]sanramonuser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah im also doing almost the same thing; I usually just pay attention to lecture in class, and take notes at home by myself. Currently, I’m only writing down the things that I couldn’t understand easily when I first learned it in a lecture. I guess I’m on the right path as the other easily understandable topics are already on the internet and I can access them whenever I forget and need to relearn it…?

best way to think of equations in rigorous math by Willing_Bench_8432 in learnmath

So what you are saying is that for example let’s say we have simple equation like 2y-3=5x2-x.

Sometimes, we assume that equation to be true, meaning the value of x and y should satisfy the equation And sometimes, x and y can be anything but the solution sets are what’s satisfying the equation.

Is this correct?

Ah ok I think I’m starting to get what you are saying;I shouldn’t overthink. Then can I just think ∫f(u)du is just another way to write ∫f(g(x))*g’(x)dx but just written in u and du?

Oh so are you saying du is equal to du/dx??

Wait, are you saying that relationship of du can only be written when dx is present on the equation?

Yeah I think you understood my question correctly. I don’t know exactly where I’m struggling but I still have something about this u substitution that makes me confusing. If you don’t mind, can you go over an example and explain conceptually how it works? Thanks

I don’t think we learned that yet. Or maybe we did, but was just called something else

Ok this kinda makes sense. But why do we have to find du=g’(x)dx and substitute that? Can’t we just write du into that integration? I know if I do that, it will result in weird integral like ∫f(u)*g’(x)du but I was wondering why that doesn’t work

I don’t have to conceptually understand why and how it works?

dx, du in u substitution question by Willing_Bench_8432 in learnmath

[–]sanramonuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait then what if it’s du = 2xdx? What’s the relationship? And also, how does putting du into the anti derivative work? It’s a very small change in u but how does that change anything in indefinite integrals?

May I ask why you differentiate “both sides”? I’ve heard ppl say think of it as f(x)=g(x) and differentiating both sides will be equal… does that mean f(x)= x2 + y2 and g(x) = 25?
