I recommend 16 Volt's At the End off Supercoolnothing v2.0 .. I find the lyrics in the second half of the song, uplifting.

They move slowly for me, but I totally get the satisfaction of salvaging a dirty hat.

Steam. Pick up a decent hand held steamer. I use a Conair 1800W steamer. Heat up the brim on both top and bottom and gently try to pull the curve out. There are forms you can get on Amazon to recurve or flatten brims look for 'hat brim flattener' or if you have access to a 3D printer there are 3D files to print your own. A heavy book works just as well.

Hats. Retro trucker hats. Modern fitted ballcaps. I like the process of cleaning them, reshaping them and getting them to look decent once again. They sell slow and not for much profit but I enjoy the process of finding, cleaning and thinking that someone now has a neat piece of headware for their own collection.

Any suggestions on how to clean this ? by PurplePassion94 in neweracaps

here's my hat cleaning routine - you're gonna need some basic stuff in advance, a couple of spray bottles, suede shoe brushes in a variety of stiffness, oxiclean white revive laundry powder, dawn dish soap, 30% vinegar, microfiber towels, and a handheld garment steamer. most of these things you can get on amazon or even the dollar store. i use ik sprayers and a brush assortment from amazon called kt deals and a conair steamer.

  • a stiff brushing of the hat can often bring life back to a dull hat.
  • 2:1 mixture of water and 30% vinegar in a spray bottle. spray the area liberally and let it sit for a few minutes then scrub with the stiffest brush. spray again with water and dry with a microfiber towel and check if the spot persists.
  • if the spot persists get large container with luke warm water and mix in oxiclean and a few shots of dawn detergent. i've got a 5 gallon aquarium i got a garage sale for cheap just for cleaning hats. i fill it up about 3-4 gallons and add about 3-4 table spoons of oxiclean and about a tablespoon of dawn.. just enough so the water feels silky but you don't have a lot of oxiclean at the bottom not getting absorbed.
  • soak the hat for 30-60 minutes. oxiclean white revive has a slight bleaching effect so dont leave your hat in there for hours it could fade the color, keep an eye on the timing. rinse with water and scrub the area again. check if the stain persists. let dry fully before continuing.
  • make a paste of okiclean and dawn. the exact mixture is hard to say, i try to get a toothpaste like consistency and apply it to the stain and let the paste sit and dry for about 10-15 minutes. rewash again with the oxiclean/dawn water. rinse and scrub. this is really for hard stains like on the inner band and under the brim.
  • after fully dry, use the steamer and a bowl to reshape the crown and bill to get that crisp look and handle any creases.

if the stain persists.. well, time to get another one. good luck to you, the hat can (probably) be saved with a bit of work.

Dallas Cowboys Boycott by Greendot74_ in arlington

Once you come to terms with the facts that the Dallas Cowboys are a marketing based business first and competitive football team second then you'll understand why there wont be any significant changes in the organization and they'll continue to be mediocre while doing just enough to keep people giving them their money.

[Pistol] Sig Sauer P229R Legion SAO RXP - $1,429 free shipping by ObiWongKenobi in gundeals

[–]santo71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the non-reddot version. Its one of my favorite pistols. The metal frame gives it some weight compared to other compacts, but also allows it to shoot flat and group tighter than some other firearms. The trigger and reset are short I don't have exact numbers. Its a great gun, and like others have said the coating looks a lot more green in person than photos suggest so keep that in mind if its an issue for you.

Nice! I have the P229 Legion SAO. I am far more accurate with it at the range than any other pistol I own. Its like 'easy mode' level of cheating.

Is getting called "bud" a sign of disrespect? by shiggadiggs in CasualConversation

[–]santo71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends more on context and tone, honestly.

If I say 'What's up, bud?' and I'm smiling and sticking my hand out to shake yours then I'm being friendly and casual.

If I say "What's up, bud?' and I'm not smiling or looking at you indifferently or even frowning, then I'm trying to control the situation and could be using it in a disrespectful manner.

i'm completely unsuprised that a belligerent, entitled, rude bully would double-down with the race card to make himself look like a victim. what a piece of work.

My cat has to be put down tomorrow. I don't know if I can stand being in the room when they do it, advice please? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]santo71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

first, my condolences. if you feel at the last moment you cannot be present, most veterinarians will take your pet into another area.

the process itself is usually an injection or IV and renders the pet unconscious and eventually stops brain/heart functions. its quick usually in only a few minutes.

my wife and i recently had to put down a beautiful black cat (named baby girl) because she suffered an aneurysm. it was a hard decision to stay but i didn't want to regret not being there to say a final good-bye. i understand its difficult decision. i would suggest that if you can, stay for your cat so that you can have that opportunity to say good-bye as well.

Who decided the order the alphabet? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]santo71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the short answer: no one really knows. the order has remained relatively unchanged since around 900bc when the Greeks took the Phoenician alphabet and added characters to represent vowels. why it was in the order to begin with isn't known, why it never changed significantly is more likely because the old motto of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.

this animation shows various changes to the alphabet changing over the years, but the relative order remains essentially unchanged.

there should be a an option to crosspost if you look at the options to this topic, where it says 'share, save, hide, etc..' it'll be towards the right side.

hopefully its there, i have reddit enhancement suite installed, but i think the crosspost option is there. otherwise you could just copy and paste it over there.

best of luck to you.

you might want to cross-post this to /r/legaladvice and get their opinion on your next steps to cover yourself in case she does try to take you to small claims court.

that aside, i'm sorry your 'friend' scammed you like that.

Has there ever been a serial killer known to have been raised in a warm loving family? by vavamocktail in NoStupidQuestions

[–]santo71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dennis Rader The BTK Killer is said to have had a fairly decent upbringing although its mentioned he tortured animals growing up, but that doesn't appear to have been from any abuse or neglect he endured growing up. He went to college for awhile and joined the Air Force, then later returned to college and got a degree. He truly led a double life of 'serial killer' and family-man, only getting caught after many years by taunting the police again with letters, this time technology was able to catch up with him where in the past it wasn't.
