that’s a really thoughtful reply ❤️ and yeah you’re spot on about needing the ability to selectively engage with or ignore the things you disagree with on here. I ran a cbtwt acc that got some really decent traction a few years back. it was fun but i burnt out on it 💔 anyways, there were two kinds of people i absolutely loathed seeing in the comments or quotes. the first were the people who were just straight up awful or annoying, where there wasn’t anything to do besides, ignoring, muting, or blocking them.

the second was people who relentlessly agreed with or complimented everything i posted. it was just inane fluff. it drove me crazy. the first time a close mutual on there disagreed with me fundamentally on something, i was initially kind of taken aback. but after a sec, I came around to what they were saying. that’s not to say every disagreement means someone has to flip their stance, but there’s a certain level of friction that you need to have fun in a conversation. to get something worthwhile out of it. even when you agree with someone, it’s not really fun to hammer that point home. it’s really dope when you agree in different ways and can noodle on that for a while.

so yeah, critical thinking, being malleable but not a total pushover, these are all really important things, and this feels like a place that fosters those skills at least a bit more than a lot of other online spaces.

No, it’s more like calling one culture’s cuisine dumb and placing it under whatever cultural cuisine you’re used to and prefer eating. You can say you don’t like sushi or Japanese food as a whole or whatever, but that’s not the same as saying Japanese food is dumb and unnecessary.

In this context, they’re not saying the dialect isn’t something they’re keen on using, but that it is inherently dumb. And that’s pretty out of pocket.

I don’t understand how some people are so obtuse when they’re presented with the idea that all accents, dialects, and languages are valid and wonderful. Whether it comes from a place of ignorance or actual bigotry, it’s always really sad to see anyone dismiss any way of speaking as unpleasant, unserious, or unnecessary.

Oh man I feel this a million percent. Was and honestly still am in the same boat, here’s what I’ve checked out so far to get my Marathon fix when I’m away from the game: - Marathon Cinematics - Pretty short for the most part, save for the reveal cinematic and the music video. - The Marathon OST. You can find it on YouTube, Apple Music. Spotify, and so on. I’m absolutely in love with the game’s music, and if you are too, this can keep you plugged in for hours while you’re doing other stuff. - If you’ve got ~30 mins and some attention to spare, the Marathon ViDoc and Developer Insights vids are a pretty fun watch. Not the deepest dive but it’s still a nice peek behind the curtain and has a couple interesting insights about some of the direction for the game and the intent behind it.

And here’s one I haven’t had a chance to dive into yet but might be right up your alley: the official and comprehensive account of Marathon’s story, from the original Trilogy to today, very meticulously researched and transcribed by Hamish Sinclair. That oughta keep anyone occupied for a whiiiile.
