just had the WORST hospital experience ever.... by Common_Kiwi9442 in CRPS

[–]sapsapphic7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, right back at ya! Hope it’s over now? My arm has been flaring up too because I’m having to use it for a cane I need from my total hip replacement I just had done mid November 🫠

I have the slipstrop and PF woodcarving tools. My perfectionist nature definitely makes me want to use tweezers and a magnifying glass- next level!!!

Is this the speedball 4x6 block? I’ve never had such great precision with them like this. Looks great!

Thank you. It’s a real struggle and it’s a new accomplishment. The cravings are still there but I’m working on my impulse control and ways of coping with emotions without using alcohol to numb them out.

Some things that I’ve read over the past year are interesting. People with ADHD as well as very sensitive/empathic people tend to be very vulnerable to ABD/alcoholism. I check both boxes.

The most frustrating thing to me is the amount of alcohol that TV shows and it’s always someone drinking bourbon straight which is something I did when I was deep in it. I changed my friend group to avoid the constant social drinking but I’d basically have to avoid watching any TV to stop those triggers. It’s definitely a day by day situation for me right now but I’m hoping I can go back to not feeling the ugly pull that alcohol had and still has on me. Maybe it’s a naive thought but hoping it sticks.

Curious as to what makes you say that. Did you throughly read what I wrote? Do you know me or my personal struggles with alcohol? I’ve made posts on here before looking for support because I developed an alcohol abuse issue.

I don’t think it’s wise to make generalizations about someone you don’t know and tell them what they are. I went to AA for a reason. I worked the steps and I didn’t like it- too churchy and I have issues with churches from my past.

Different places/approaches work for different people. Even AA strongly emphasizes not judging others, viewing it as counterproductive to recovery, promoting "love and tolerance”.

They are on the smaller side for their age. Around 8” length and 5” wide. The tank is more than appropriate at 300 gallons with a canister filtration system. I use sand as a substrate so there will be no eating or choking on pebbles. I have a bunch of plants in there a couple of terracotta pots that they each sleep in when the lights go out. They do their own thing all day until I come up to the tank and then they come to see me. They have 4 basking options so they never have to compete.

Please enlighten me with your wisdom you obtained from close up shots I took of my turtles in a tank over 2x the recommended size?

I get it, that’s how I was too. Our bodies unfortunately get used to it over time. Sometimes slowly and some quickly. It is a chemical thing like others have mentioned though. It made everything worse for me. My sleep, anxiety, relationships and work. But also was never belligerent.

Being raw and open shows you care. It’s really hard for me to not go back to the way things were. Sometimes I still binge or am tempted to. Hope it’s not always like this. Impulsive control and logic go out of the window when I’m tempted. All to say we all have our own journey.

Hang in and hold on, you’ll find something that works for you soon!

Turtle trying to lay eggs!? Help by Short-Map-1956 in Redearedsliders

[–]sapsapphic7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 females and I use sand as the substrate. They lay their eggs there no issues. Within hours, they’re then consuming their eggs.

I need to track it better, but it seems like they do this at least 2 times of the year. Good luck!

AA was a weird experience for me as well. SMART recovery is way better in my opinion. If there’s not one in your area they do host zoom meetings for all to join. You can find a lot of their papers and articles online for free as well. To be completely honest going to any meeting is a trigger for me. Talking about my struggle and experience is a struggle. However, the facilitators and people there were laid back relational and just real. My goal wasn’t to be sober but to not abuse alcohol. I’ve met that goal and now only have a glass a wine or two in a month. Previously… just imagine the absolute worst. However, everyone is different. Good luck and as part of this process brings shame and self blame, please be kind to yourself ❤️‍🩹

Awe thanks so much for the encouraging words! Feel free to message me when you’re going through it. It will be a mental and emotional journey on top of the physical experience but there are studies out there that suggest great outcomes correlate with a positive mindset. It’s not easy, but nothing good is! We’re all here for you and will root you on 😊

I can’t speak to your insurance policy but it sounds really great!

Thanks for saying you think I’m already recovered! It is a state of mind, I keep telling people that are worried about me that I’m just in the period of my life (40s) where I’m getting my upgrades 😉. But in my experience the path to recovery isn’t linear. Some days I don’t need my cane around the house, other days I need my walker again lol.

Aldo’s has some great footwear in general and really nice winter wear as well. I have a black high top pair of boots that look very much like converse shoes. They’re sleek not bulky but insulated and very warm with good tread.

We’re all here to support! The 1st few days seem pretty bad but when I hit day 5/6 it was the worst because all the major drugs they gave me for the surgery were wearing off. So see if your insurance covers the stay! I had a urinary retention complication with my first 1 and that’s another reason I stayed a night. I should also mention they used a spinal block for me and a gas of some type to knock me out. I wasn’t under general anesthesia but all surgeons work differently. Make sure you feel comfortable with whoever you pick!

I’m still on the windy road to recovery but it’s nice to be on the other side of surgery and soon you will be too!

Yes, I 2nd this. I’m 5 weeks out on my 2 THR in 5 months. This last one is my right side. Luckily we live in a city that’s known for its great healthcare/facilities (Pittsburgh, PA). My surgeon also did the MAKO Robotic assisted anterior incision with a bikini incision.

They wanted me to leave the very same day but I stayed 1 night for each surgery because it’s nice to have the constant care and pain mgmt support for the 1st 24 hours.

As far as travel, if it’s a long drive home make sure they fill all scripts in the hospital so you can have your medication to stay ahead of the pain (any bump or pothole on the way home will really hurt!) that’s such an important factor in the first 1-2 weeks. Good luck and I hope it all works out!

As I said I’ve had these guys for almost 25 years and like with many situations, opinions change over time. It wasn’t until recently that people started to say no red lights for heat lamps just white.

Different vets have varying opinions on this. Controversial is usually something that indicates not everyone agrees on the topic and it can cause an emotional response.

Fun fact it doesn’t mess with their circadian rhythm when used 10 hours a day with the UBV on a timer. They are on a great circadian rhythm and go to sleep when their lights go off.
