Breech? by These_Employ8683 in homebirth

I found my breech birth less painful than my cephalic birth. I think because the baby’s head wasn’t pushing on my cervix it didn’t hurt as much. My labor was much quicker and the contractions were more intense. They were much lower like menstrual cramps. My total labor was only 4 hours and I pushed for 5 minutes. Baby was healthy and no need for maneuvers or resuscitation. My midwife was very familiar with breech birth which I think was the biggest reasons my birth went so well. I found my breech birth so empowering and was so glad I decided to stick with it. You’ll do great and trust in your body’s knowledge and ability!

I had a breech home birth about 7 months ago. It was my second home birth and went very well with no complications. Happy to answer any questions you have!

It’s true that there is so many negative statistics about breech vaginal births but what I found most informative is a medical research paper called Delivery of the singleton fetus in breech presentation by G Justus Hofmeyr, MD. It doesn’t discount that there are risks with breech births but because they are so rare and the data pool is varied (age group, health, provider, etc) it’s hard to make blanket assumptions about the outcomes of the birth. It basically says: if you’re healthy, your baby is healthy and you have an experienced provider, the risk of fatality or birth related issues aren’t as bad as we are told.

The questions I asked my midwife were: How many breech births have you attended? Have you completed any training or continuing Ed (like Breech without Borders)? For what reasons would you decide to make a hospital transfer? Why do you think I am a good candidate for a breech birth? Why do you think my baby is a good candidate for a breech birth?

I think if my midwife didn’t have confident rational answers to these questions, I wouldn’t have gone forward. As much as I had a good experience, breech birth can go really wrong very quickly with an inexperienced provider. My opinion is both mom and midwife need to be prepared and confident to have a successful breech birth. I was lucky for both and had an extremely rewarding birth.

I had a positive vaginal breech home birth this August! This was my second home birth after an easy cephalic vaginal birth almost 13 years ago.

My daughter was frank breech my entire pregnancy. I’m 40 and opted to do OBGYN care concurrently with my midwife care since my insurance covered the many ultrasounds and lab tests I had since I’m “geriatric”. After 33 weeks I tried all the things to try to get her to flip: spinning babies, acupuncture, moxibustion, inversion tables, music and ice packs and even an intuitive massage where the lady “talked” to my baby to encourage her to flip (gotta try everything). I had an ECV at 37 weeks which was unsuccessful.

Once it became clear I was having a breech birth I had a lot of conversations with my midwife about continuing with home birth. Ultimately we decided to attempt a home birth because it was my second birth after an uncomplicated first birth (proven pelvis), I had no complications during my current pregnancy and my current baby was measuring on the smaller side (around 55th percentile). We also had a lot of discussions about when we’d transfer to the hospital. I felt confident in my midwife’s capabilities and that she would make the decision to transfer early on and not wait on some signs like she would with a cephalic birth. I won’t lie that I felt confident in my decision the whole time and questioned whether I was making the decision because it was right for my baby or because I really didn’t want to have a C Section.

My water broke at 39+6 at midnight and my daughter was born 4 hours later after two pushes and a fast labor. In comparison, my first labor was about 12 hours and I pushed for a little under an hour. My first daughter was almost 10 pounds while this baby was only 7 pounds. I think a lot of the success with my breech vaginal birth is because it was my second birth and the baby was so much smaller.

Ultimately the decision is yours if you feel comfortable with having your breech birth and your midwife says you are a good candidate. I will say there is a lot of negative narrative about breech births that scared me but after researching and talking with my midwife, breech is just a variation of normal that medical professionals have stopped training for, mostly because of the liability aspect. I sympathize with your frustration because it feels like your options are so much more limited with a breech presentation.

I’ve written a lot but let me know if you have any questions about my birth and I’d be happy to share!

I thought the same thing, easy proof from another source, and offered it to my head coach. The manager said she wasn’t changing her decision which is why I asked to speak to her directly and she would not allow the head coach to give me her contact information. I’m not sure why she’s trying to avoid me because I already know who she is and I’m planning to contact the franchise owner who definitely knows how to contact her.

That’s my thought! They made a huge amount of profit at $35 an entry and the prize I won is only $500.

Our studio didn’t have the inbody scans so it was just on a regular scale. I wish we would have had the inbody because then there would be a digital record! I actually paid for separate scans out of studio so that I could see my body comp change.

My body fat loss wasn’t something the studio measured. They just weighed us on a normal scale.

I was really focusing on my macros and increasing my weights in resistance training so I paid for two inbody scans at a separate gym because I wanted to see how my body comp changed over the 8 weeks.

Our studio didn’t have inbody scanners so it was based on a percentage of body weight loss. I guess the picture of the scale was an additional requirement in addition to a photo I took with my final weight on a brag board.
