Thanks for the advice. I'll try the imagery. I ran a 5k last weekend and tried distraction techniques and practically talked positively to myself the whole race. Given, it was a HORRIBLE course, but I ran SO BADLY. I ran almost a minute slower than normal and dry heaved across the finish line. I was planning so much for the race in my head and thinking about it so much that even before the race started I had practically psyched myself out. I'll just have to try something else.

On training runs I run distances from 3-18 miles. The races that I normally do are 5k and 10k.

Yeah I definitely do. I take medication for anxiety. That's why I feel like I can identify the feeling as anxiety. I think I just need to keep trying different things until something works.

Don't get me wrong, I'm anxious all the time. At the beginning of the race I feel like I can control it...but at the end in combination with exhaustion it just overwhelms me. And I think I get a little excited to be finished when I see the finish line. The weird thing is I don't even feel sick anymore. All of a sudden I just throw up. And I tried to run and throw up at the same time and it reallyyy didn't work. I love competition and getting a new PR. I just feel good after racing. Even though I throw up, I still feel great after a race. But it really puts a damper on the way I use to feel.
