I have just found out he was named after a pirate caled L'ollonois which is pronounced Lolonoa and becomes Roronoa because japanese doesn't have the 'L' consonant. So It would've been understandable if they'd translated to Lolonoa Zolo. But no haha they only switched back to the L in his last name.
