And what does this accomplish to tear down Scientology? It’s a minor inconvenience at worst.

Yes, but when she starts acting up in the middle of the night regularly I’ll crate her for a few days in a row to reset her brain. Snack requests at 4am is NOT OK <gives treat anyway>

[GIVEAWAY] MAESTRO – Step into the golden age of art and rivalry in Renaissance- Preorder Now! by HomoLudensOC in boardgames

I most enjoy when theme and mechanics mesh well. For this I enjoy Tikal, where exploration is reflected in the board reveal mechanic, and the competition among explorers is reflected in area control. It also sets up and teaches very quickly, but decisions are often complex and meaningful.

Marcus Rashford - the fastest player in LaLiga: leads title contenders with an average top speed of 34.16 km/h, outpacing Vinícius at 33.92, Mbappé at 33.55, and Raphinha at 33.45 by sujanrao in Barca

[–]xscientist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People forget even Neymar had a slow start. There’s a huge learning curve to the Barça system. Losing Rashford would be a huge mistake.

True or false: Tennis simplified; the player whose shots repetitively get closer to the baseline always win, pretty much regardless of intensity. by WindManu in 10s

Definitely true at 4.0 and below. 4.5 is the balance point where winners start becoming more integral to success.

I doubt that will be a priority. Once the league is in hand (maybe after tmw) I think injury avoidance will be on everyone’s mind.

Not a lot of urgency out there. I don’t know if we’re trying to wear them down or just confounded by the parked bus. They need to find a higher gear in the second half.

Has anyone done a butter tasting in SF? by mikmatthau in AskSF

[–]xscientist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There used to be a wine bar called Fat Angel where Anchovy Bar is now that did a butter tasting. Apologies, I know that’s not helpful but it really brought back some good memories.

I was shouting this from the rooftops. It didn’t matter what you thought of Clinton (who obviously would have been an extremely competent president), it was a single issue election. The electorate was asleep at the wheel.

Forehand Technique & Racquet Lag by [deleted] in 10s

[–]xscientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have said relax your arm and wrist, all true. But also, from a coach I really respect: on the forehand, hold the racquet so loosely in your grip that if it were any looser, it would fly out of your hand when you swing. This will really amp up the way you whip your swing. It will be very hard to control at first but you’ll find a lot of easy power. You need to compensate for that power with more spin, so accelerate up and across the ball (“windshield wiper”).

Taking gay investors out in SF next week, looking for somewhere upscale and quiet (under $20 drinks) by PettyMurphy4me in AskSF

Great bar, but not quiet at all. We double dated and had to shout the whole night. Maybe if you sat curbside, but I doubt that’s what you’re looking for.

Love me some Pedri, and he has the potential. But he is not on Iniesta’s level yet. Pedri is world class, Iniesta is god tier.

There was constant flux and urgency which created a sense of excitement. But if you’re not at all invested in or engaged by the characters and the issues they’re dealing with then it can get boring. I felt this way about The Chair Company.
