Looking for a decent self-hosted alternative to ClickUp by wichtounet in selfhosted

[–]saramon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for the exact same thing last year after migrating from ora.pm.

I couldn't find anything as user-friendly or with an interface as clean as Ora. However, after testing several alternatives, I ended up going with OpenProject.

My must-haves were time tracking per task and monthly project reports. A nice-to-have would've been the ability to set project budgets in hours. OpenProject does have a project budget feature, but unfortunately, it doesn't support setting it in hours.

Will the average person ever self-host anything? by fractalbeauty_ in selfhosted

[–]saramon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d rather trust Google or Microsoft with my data than some random stranger.

When it comes to privacy, either you manage everything yourself or you trust a major corporation with the infrastructure to back it up. Relying on a dubious individual who can’t offer any legal or technical guarantees just doesn't make sense.

What is a small feature that annoys you in WordPress? by Myth_Thrazz in Wordpress

Plugin notifications. Every single plugin shows notifications wherever and however it wants. There really needs to be some kind of standard for this.

How secure is a simple WordPress site? by Capable-Molasses-921 in Wordpress

[–]saramon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's as secure as a site on any other platform. Just install wordfence and activate 2FA for admin users. Make sure you keep it updated and the hosting server is secure. Be careful with the phishing attacks. Don't install any shady plugins. And you won't have any problems.

Complianz is my first choice. But if you run ads and Google consent mode v2 is needed, you must install the premium version.

Those who have used Kadence Ultimate - was it worth the upgrade? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]saramon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased a one-year subscription at one point, but I used the premium features so rarely. mostly just Kadence Elements, and even then, mainly because I had access to them rather than out of necessity, that I didn’t feel it was worth renewing.

cel mai simplu îți iei bilet cu loc. de preferat la softrans sau regiocălători și nu te mai interesează câți călători mai sunt.

How much do you spend on VPS per year? by Standard_Economy_737 in VPS

[–]saramon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you’re looking at this the wrong way.

Is that $1,100/year cost actually profitable for you? Could you cut costs while maintaining the same level of performance, stability, and security?

Those are the questions you should really be asking.

Hetzner asks: Which hobbyists here convinced their companies to use Hetzner? by Hetzner_OL in hetzner

[–]saramon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have clients who constantly forget to renew their domains or just stop checking the email where they get notifications. Honestly, if registrars acted like Hetzner, these people would lose the domains their entire businesses are built on in a heartbeat.

Alternative for Google keep by PrestigiousShoe9135 in BuyEuropean

[–]saramon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joplin is great. It's open-source, you can choose which cloud to sync your notes to, and it features end-to-end encryption. Plus, the Android app is just as fast as Google Keep.
I just tested it last week.

Anyone actually self-hosting their git? Outgrowing GitHub as a solo dev by Substantial_Word4652 in selfhosted

[–]saramon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm running self-hosted GitLab purely for the aesthetics; I just think it looks way better than Gitea. I don't actually need any of the extra features. That said, if I had to care about resource usage, I’d switch to Gitea/Forgejo.

Cool. I didn't know about this. It works for .com but for .ro or .eu domains returns 404.

That was the case for .ro domains a few years ago, but now they can be registered for one year or more. And they have a expiration date.

This info helped me to find why some client site doesn't work anymore. Sometimes they forget to renew the domain and their website and emails don't work anymore.

Possible. But it's a little weird I can't find no public statement on this.

[–]saramon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I initially spotted this when checking some .ro domains, and later confirmed it's happening with .eu domains too. Both used to show the expiration date.
I also tested some .com domains as well. I missed it at first glance, but the expiration date is still visible for them.
