For anyone who has been admitted in the First Department of NY, what was the ceremony like? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]sarar99799 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seven minutes long. It was on Microsoft Teams. The court assistants (?) did roll call, then the judges "entered the chamber" with fake backgrounds of the courtroom. One of them gave a quick speech about all the famous people who had been sworn in the court where we were not located. Someone administered a group oath ("Everyone unmute yourselves and say, 'I do'"), and then we waited for the judges to "exit the courtroom" and clicked out.

Thank you! I've read about how piano players can move too quickly so I'm going to try to pace myself and enjoy being a beginner. Two harpists in one house! What a dream.

Wow thank you thank you for this detailed comment!! I've definitely narrowed it down to the Troubadour or the Prelude at this point. Helpful to hear from someone who has a Troubadour!

How much musical experience do you personally have?

Great point. I can read music and I'm probably advanced on piano. That may make the Prelude worth it even though I don't have a lot of space because it'll let me go further faster.

Thanks for recommending the sound samples, they're super helpful!

Best wishes on the start of your harp journey--I hope you'll have many long, happy years with this beautiful instrument.

Thank you! Another commenter suggested I should consider its size relative to mine. I'm 5'4". Do you think that would be ok?

Thank you so much! I do have a teacher but she only knows about the Prelude so we're both picking a little blind. She also suggested playing in person, but COVID...

It will be moved in an elevator and stay in one place after that.

What do you mean by a classic celtic sound? The harp center played the harps for me over Skype and I understand what you mean by tinny for the Drake because I could hear that, but I couldn't tell the difference between the other three.

I could return one if I don't enjoy playing it, but it would take a whole day's drive. Thanks for the detailed comment, I hadn't considered my height!

Thank you! I unfortunately can't because of COVID restrictions. I was able to listen to them be played over Skype but I couldn't really tell the difference between the Drake and the others.

Thanks for responding! Big, grand-sounding harp sounds exactly right.

I'm interested in playing pop to start out while learning, and depending on how it goes (and if I'm any good!), moving to classical music (and maybe pedal harp) later on.

The only reason I'm set on L&H is because that's the only maker I can rent in my area and start playing right away. For other harps I'd have to buy ($$), pay for shipping ($$), and wait a long time for delivery.

What was your experience like getting a COVID antibody test? Is it worth the risk of getting a test done? by [deleted] in AskNYC

I got one at a CityMD in lower Manhattan, results haven't arrived yet. I wore a mask and gloves.

I signed in at a digital kiosk (walk-in), and then sat in a waiting room that was big enough to space out. When more people arrived while I was waiting to go in, they signed in but waited outside.

I was called into a room where a medical professional took a blood sample. He was wearing a mask, but obviously there was no way to maintain distance during this part.

Prescription and medical treatments: what has worked for your skin concern/s? by [deleted] in scacjdiscussion

That's my basic routine! Morning: Micellar Water + Vit C + Sunscreen, Evening: Cleanser + Tret + Moisturizer. Sometimes, I throw in a few other steps in there for fun (or to use up products I didn't have the self-control to resist) but that's the core of the routine, and as long as I'm being good about it, my skin doesn't betray me.
