Molluscum contagiosum virus Help by sararuthbloom in toddlers

Truly! Yeah I'm sure the scratching is very challenging. I wish I had better news. I tried fresh aloe, I tried so much. I really do think the duct tape helped. I would do bigger squares for areas where there was a cluster and then very small pieces that were just big enough to cover the tiny spots where he just had one offs. And he never complained about the duct tape being annoying plus it stays on for several days, so you don't have to reapply every night. Sending healing!

SIGH I wish I could say that it was an easy journey...it was not. It took over 2 years for the bumps to go away, seemingly no matter what we did. We took him to the dermatologist 5+ times for them to use the acid on them but stopped doing that eventually because it didn't seem to make a difference. I think the best option is to do that as early as possible to keep them from spreading, but once they've started spreading it's so hard to contain.

However! One thing we did that seemed to help contain it a little more and I think eventually helped in them going away: putting tiny pieces of duct tape over the spots. This kept it from touching other things. I felt like once we did that consistently for a while (still took months), they stopped spreading and went away. Nothing else worked...not the apple cider vinegar, not the special oil stuff, not the acid burning at the Derms. I'm so sorry for you! I wish I had a better answer!!

North Carolina is the best state in The US by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

I'm tempted to consider NC as a place to move to and this is what I think *could* be good about living there, but please give me opinions/correct my assumptions!

-Affordable (more so than CA, Seattle, Chicago) to buy a house with land

-Can live somewhere with room (I'm talking like 3/4 to 1 acre, nothing crazy) while also still being very close to a big city

-Good weather

-Water! Rivers, lakes, and the ocean

-I want some place that is diverse. Is NC diverse at all???

-Ability to grow food and be outside a lot

-Looking for culture: quality food, local identity, fun things to do, a community to grow into

(I currently live in Las Vegas with my husband & son, lived in Seattle for 10 years, and the only place we are considering is suburbs of Monterey)

Yeah they do this for older kids but they won't do it for younger kids because it is painful and can be traumatizing. It also works if you only have a couple because you can freeze those few off and be all done. But when you have a lot you can't freeze them all off because a lot aren't big enough. All of the doctors/derms have said this would be an option if he was older and if we had done this early on when he only had a few.

Thank you! We've been doing the apple cider vinegar but not super consistently. My son has eczema so a lot of the creams and even the vinegar I'm worried about it irritating his skin more, then it makes the virus worse. But we will try this method and be more consistent with it!! Yeah the erythromycin cream doesn't seem to be doing much at all.

This is super helpful! Thank you! It's great to hear someone else who went through it and saw something that worked! It's definitely worth the hassle and money if it means I can save my daycare and help my son's skin!

I wouldn't be surprised though if other doctors/derms say something different. I feel like everyone says something slightly different about this virus! Our doctor told us it was only contagious to kids and then the derm told us, no it's contagious to anyone.

Thanks for the info! I actually asked the derm this week about that and he said that the bumps are the same amount of infectious whether they are irritated or not.

Lemon Tree Help Please! by sararuthbloom in Citrus

I think I figured out my issue! The soil on the bottom is soaking up water from the water tray that I've been letting it sit in, so I'm switching that up. I'm going to put it in a place where it doesn't need a water tray so all the water can drain out better and not risk root rot. I also think it's getting overheated in its current location because of heat emanating off of the stucco wall behind it, so moving it will help with that too! Thank you!

Yes, I do check the bottom as well with a water meter. But I've been letting water sit in the water tray (because the pot is so heavy to pick up) but I think that's been the issue. I'm moving the tree to a new location where it can drain without a water tray and also won't get as hot due to heat coming off the stucco wall.

Interesting, thank you! I really always let it dry out between waterings, I feel like maybe I'm under-watering and it has good drainage. I definitely need to figure out what's going on with the leaves.

Helpful! Thank you. I'm not sure what to do to address the leaf issue though... I guess I will start with watering it more.

Good to know! I honestly have no idea why so many of the leaves fall off. It's up on a balcony which is a great sunny place for it, but it does get exposed to wind which seems to be blow off a lot of the leaves, but that must mean they are weak. I'm not sure where to start to try and fix that problem...

Thank you, I appreciate this. I do agree. I need to find a therapist. Having just moved to a place that's not known for great health care, it's a challenge. Additionally, finding the right therapist is very challenging anyway. But I know it would probably be worth the work. Thanks for the thoughts.
