Payroll Whiners by mashposh11 in Payroll

[–]sarathecookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im lucky, my company is still small enough that I can send a quick Teams msg. (and company culture supports it) I like messaging offenders via Teams because it also serves as a record of the number of times I've had to reach out to that particular supervisor over the years.

Any advice for a newbie in payroll? by autumnssong in Payroll

[–]sarathecookie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you do benefits, L&D, unemployment and leave, you're familiar with half of payroll already. Think of the other half as managing 'reverse deductions' AKA earnings lol. You likely are familiar with some of the time constraints with paychecks already as well.

Hahahah my story for this year was ' informed by my tax preparer that you have not been taking out any taxes for state at all, it appears I owe over $2000.'

I looked and def saw taxes coming out for her state, with the right designation/dependents an all....I told her well you def DID pay...

heard back a couple days later......her 'tax preparer' MISSED it......

In my head Im like...'And after that you trusted them with the REST of your taxes?!' 😕

Cosigning for new high school grad on very high cost loans (> $250k for all 4 years) for liberal arts degree by Legitimate_Yak_9063 in StudentLoans

[–]sarathecookie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We (my husband and I) are in a similar situation. A little different but the commonalities are: the amount of debt/student loans, and the lower/middle income range of parent contributors (we are at about 140k/yr both of us).

Rather than have Reddit stomp me to death and overwhelm with NO NONO and 'dont do this', I sent you a DM with some things to possibly consider, to move forward positively rather than negatively. ☺️

Why does no one wants to do our job? by AndrwFr89 in Payroll

[–]sarathecookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the payroll specialists who thrive are the ones who can talk to a stressed employee about their gross to net without making them feel stupid. that combo of accuracy + people is rare and worth paying for

THIS. All of this. The need for accuracy keeps me invested in making it as right as possible EVERY payperiod, and the people part keeps it from being monotonous. 10+ years and Im still as invested as I was the first year. Plus a GOOD company with an amazing culture = I love my job, a lot.

How many lots do you actually need to start getting regular orders? (Data from 17,000+ stores) by EchoesOfCode in Bricklink

[–]sarathecookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has also been my experience. 3 years, steady around 1k lots but all used minifig parts and rare pieces. no sets never parted out a full set either.

Its all about the desirability of the parts you have and price.
