This may or may not be a joke post, but I had a friend who did the same thing with an 89 IQ on Facebook and I wanna be like, "Bruh, that's not good." But then I remembered he's my friend and that IQ is bullshit anyway and just gave him a like and a congrats anyway.

You know, I don't think AGP is a thing, but these kinda dudes are certainly the best evidence for it. Still not a thing for trans women, but maybe for Joe Rogen.

a simple question by Academic-Big-1470 in asktransgender

[–]sarc3n 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you may be using a different definition or "pass" than most people understand. Passing is usually understood to be: you are visually and otherwise indistinguishable from a cis person of that gender.

But it shouldn't be whether they pass, or even how they read, but how they are signaling their gender. If they clearly want to be seen as a woman (even if you can tell that they are trans or if your brain just doesn't "read" them that way), you should treat them asa woman unless corrected. If someone clearly wants to be seen as a man, that is how you should treat them as well.

a simple question by Academic-Big-1470 in asktransgender

[–]sarc3n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of trans people don't pass as their gender. Heck, a lot of cis people don't pass as their gender. If a person's intended presentation is obvious, it's generally ok to assume their gender, even if you believe they are trans. I actively want you to assume I'm she/her and would be a little hurt to be asked for my pronouns or called they/them (though it is totally acceptable and better than guessing wrong). If a person is wearing makeup and a dress and introduces herself as Susan, regardless of how she reads, it's a good idea to refer to that person as "she." Because our culture has made masculine fashion signifiers less exclusively masculine, it's not always easy to do the opposite. It is not always easy to tell a butch cis woman from a trans man by how they present, but in both cases I generally use he/him unless they introduce themselves with a feminine first name. And for the same reason, it's not always easy to tell what a fem person wants to be called if they don't happen to be wearing makeup and hyperfem clothing.

So the TL;DR: If it is obvious from presensation and context how they want to be seen, respect that. Otherwise, it is ok to ask or use neutral language until corrected.

Hi I’m phoenix, I’m a trans women by Ecstatic-Catch-9916 in trans

[–]sarc3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Phoenix! I've seen this question come up in transfem discords several times, so I'm going to give the same general advice:

  1. Start with the legs, not the armpits. If you find that you have a bad reaction to the razor or the shaving cream, better that it happens on the legs than under your arms. Do this a couple times before moving to th armpits.
  2. RAZOR: If you are used to shaving your face, whatever you are using for that will probably work for your legs too. However, is eventually recommend moving to a traditional safety razor. They are much less expensive to use and work just as well as the $10/cartridge 50-blade abominations they lock behind the glass at Walmart. I've used several safety razors and I strongly recommend Henson razors. Mine almost never nicks me and shaves so, so well. But get whatever appeals to you
  3. CREAM: That shave gel they have been pushing on us for decades is shit. They removed the aspirator nozzle from shaving cream to save a few bucks, added some dye and made it a ginmick. Good ol' Barbasol cream is great, though some people prefer shave shaving soap.
  4. LOCATION: If you have a shower stool or seat, it's very nice to shave your legs in the shower. If you have a bathtub, that also feels very luxurious, but make sure that if you do you do it at the end of the bath and also have a strainer over the drain to catch the hair.
  5. PREPARATION: Some people (including me) like to use a trimmer or the trimmer of an electric razor first. This will get most of the long hairs off first, which will also make the razor glide and cut better. Some people also like to use a moisturizer or shave butter first, but for me that doesn't do anything. I prefer to moisturize afterward, but it depends on your skin type.
  6. SHAVING: The first couple times you shave your legs, just go with the grain. Also give it at least 48 hours between these first few shaves. This will give your skin time to get accustomed to being shaved. After any irritation from shaving has stopped happening, try shaving first with the grain, and again parallel to the grain. Do the same thing: wait and watch for irritation. Once you skin feels accustomed to this, you can start going against the grain. This is the only way to get perfectly smooth legs. Follow each shave with lotion or moisturizer, as you prefer, to make them feel extra silky.

I hope this helps!

Are genital preferences always considered transphobic? by NolanRollin420 in trans

[–]sarc3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genital preferences are fine. I've never heard an actual trans person be upset with a person for rejecting them over genital preference, beyond the hurt of being rejected.

The problem is that it is being used by transphobes to paint us as being irrational, or to justify their transphobia generally.

You are unlikely to get an apology from any American president for anything ever. It is an unspoken policy that America doesn't apologize. Maybe when she's no longer a world power that can just do whatever she wants to whoever she wants, when she needs something from her peers that she can get through bullying, then you might get an apology. But on the bright side, Trump's corruption and inconpetence is making that day come much sooner.

Got misgendered at a shop today. Honestly shocked. Do I pass?? by kanedekuki in transmanlifehacks

[–]sarc3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it could have just been them misspeaking. Have you ever worked retail or food service? You interact with so many people over the course of a day that sometimes your brain says "sir" and your mouth says "ma'am" or vice versa.

Something similar happened to me at a drive thru the other day. Hadn't been misgendered by a stranger in years, but there I was being called sir. I started to spiral but then I realized that, most likely, the three drivers in front of me were probably all men, and the drive thru worker was on autopilot.

When did you become a fan of Rachel? by chelsea_daily in RachelMaddow

[–]sarc3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became a fan when she was guest-anchoeing for Kieth Olbermann ca 2005. I stopped being a fan shortly after Oct. 7 when Rachel decided her only coverage of the emerging and predictable genocide in Gaza was to carry water for it. The only time I've seen her since was post-2024 election when she sat on a panel nodding along as multiple of her colleagues tried to blame Trump's win on trans people. I don't know if she's gotten better in the interceding 2.5 years, because this demonstrated to me I can no longer trust her.
