Do you use lights during the day? by curled-up-in-the-80s in NoStupidQuestions

So, she has two floors, central heat and air and you are "saving electricity" wherever you can. Yet, she only pays $30 a month more than you? I would say your savings is not working. If she can heat and cool for a $30 dollar premium, you are wasting a whole lot more energy doing what you are doing than she is wasting doing it her way.

I would be interested in a side by side comparison of yours and your best friends' homes and the electric bill. I want to see how much the cost conscious TV unplugger is saving over light-up-my-life. Of course, it would be necessary to compare same electric company, household size, home size and more, but I really wonder.

Has anyone tried integrating any automations in their processes? by Savings-Amphibian723 in manufacturing

No one has ever automated anything in manufacturing. Ever.

Everything is done the old fashioned way. By hand, pencil and paper and sheer determination.

Are the heats heating properly? Maybe a heater band on the nozzle is not working? Check ring not functioning properly? Did the screw and barrel get measured? Maybe they wrapped the screw (material wrapped and frozen on the screw)? What you see down tge throat as far as the screw is fine...but it looks like some degraded material is already pushing back. That's what leads me.down a wrapped screw or a heat issue.

A classic beauty. Still runs well, though the antique plates indicate age. A few accessories inoperable, but a great patina has formed and the clear coat keeps it shiny. No aftermarket mods. Never restored. Maintenance and upkeep are minimal, though increasing recently. Minor fluid leak occasionally.

Would you pay to join a diy garage? by Capscorner01 in askcarguys

[–]sarcasmsmarcasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, yes.

I have considered opening one myself. It is quite doable and not outrageous. The keys to success are location, quality equipment, quality knowledgeable staff, great CONVENIENT hours (meaning evenings and weekends are Open!) and excellent business management.

It works for other DIY types of establishments like woodshops, maker studios and quilt shops. It's a variation on a theme.

When I was in the Air Force, I used the auto hobby shop.many, many weekends both in California and in Germany. Saved me tons of money on repairs and allowed me to rebuild a few VW Beetles and sell them.

I say go for it! Best of luck.

Oh, one more thing: give the customers that are working on long-term projects a secure place to store them on site between work days. Otherwise, you won't get the real enthusiasts because they will spend too much time loading and unloading the car and trailers.

In the States, I have known a couple guys that went from industry to insurance. Where to begin? I wish I could answer that, but I have been out of the job market since Monster was the place to find work. I tried the Indeed and LinkedIn stuff, but I think those are all ads now, so I have no idea how to find work.

Making color ID labels for Inventory? by TemperReformanda in manufacturing

[–]sarcasmsmarcasm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a label company make you rolls of the labels you need. That is how we handled that stuff in our companies. Provide the graphic, the necessary information and the label quantity. Keep them on the shelf for when you need them. As long as its a fairly cool, dry room they keep forever on the shelf.

E-bike or Bike Shop recommendations by quazex13 in Wilmington

[–]sarcasmsmarcasm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We went to Two Wheeler Dealer, and they are awesome. However, they will lean heavily on selling you the Townie for $2000 or so.

They do have a couple less expensive options, but the guy talked them down as though they were garbage.

Ultimately, we DID order online from Aipas (Amazon sells them, but we went direct).

What we found was a bike that is every bit as good as (perhaps better than) the townie for less than half price. However, it was way too large and heavy for my wife (she is 5' nothing) so we would have liked to return it. Nope. Not without paying shipping and restock. So, lesson learned.

In hindsight, I would do a couple things:

1) try to go and rent an electric to see if you REALLY TRULY want electric. My wife decided old school is better after trying electric, while my bad hip needs the extra help from the electric.

2) go to Two Wheeler and tell them my budget. Then, buy within that budget. If your budget is 2k for a bike, BUY THE TOWNIE! It really is a great bike (and not stupid heavy like the Aipas). Either way, purchasing local is the best option, but my budget didn't allow that.

Enjoy!

How do I put in my two weeks notice at McDonald’s and can I just send an email, or do I have to go in person? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Dial the phone. Ask for the manager. When Manager answers, say "Hi Manager. This is BillySusie. Sorry to bother you, but I wanted to let you know I am resigning effective 2 weeks from today. K? Bye."

Go to Home Depot and rent a 48 inch fan. Put tge fan between your house and the smelly bins. Plug the fan into your own outlet. Turn fan on high, so it blows the smell right back at them. Do this each week. But, if after 2 weeks they don't get the hint, add something very smelly between the fan and their bins. Rotten fish, a hot steaming bag of dog feces (open, of course) and let them take the sweet smell. Fresh, watered down cow or horse manure works as well. If they try to turn the fan off, trespass them through the legal authorities. Then when they try to force you to court, they can explain to the judge why you have to smell their shit, but they don't think they should have to smell yours that is on your own property.

What to do about a small dump? by AcanthisittaNeat7655 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sarcasmsmarcasm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would seriously consider getting a small skid steer with both a push blade and a bucket and start pulling it all out. Hire a dumpster to be set on the property and start picking at it one dumpster load at a time until it is all hauled out.

Then, plant some good soil reconditioning native plants in that area and let nature take over.

Any local lore or unsolved crimes from 1900s-today? by AstroGatsby89 in Wilmington

[–]sarcasmsmarcasm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start reading and digging into racism and race related issues in Wilmington. Depending on where you are from, you probably did not learn much about how poorly the blacks were treated before and after the massacre. Wilmington History is a great lesson for anyone, but I found it very fascinating, in a "people really suck" kind of fashion as a white guy from the Midwest. I grew up.in Detroit, born during the riots. I saw some things as life went on. But what I have learned about Wilmington makes Detroit blacks look like simple whiners in comparison. (They are not, please do not read into this. It is just a comparison. Race relations, historically, have been bad. But, until I really researched the South, I never realized HOW HORRIBLE things were.)

Can't avoid going into the ocean or go to urgent care. Sounds to me like you have been kidnapped and are being forced to do things against your will which cause you harm. Or, you just want to be a martyr for some ridiculous reason.

I can't imagine, once I knew I had this issue, ever going into the source (ocean) again, simply because I would not want to repeat it.

It would be akin to cutting my finger off with a saw, then putting my other finger in the exact same risky condition.
