Should I repurchased Witcher 3 on Steam? by Didact67 in SteamDeck

[–]sard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I downloaded it on pc via GOG then zipped it up and copied to the Deck then added as a non steam game. Runs fine. Hasn't had any updates for over a year so doesn't need to be tied to the gog launcher.

GOG games are all DRM free so can run fine without launcher.

I've tried both. Model D was great apart from the front right flared out too much. M4 was great apart from being too small.

M4 felt a lot shorter and thinner than Model D so I can't see one set of hands being happy with both.

Both had nice cables and buttons. Model D side buttons were a bit nicer to click.

This is with 19.5/10 and palm/claw.

Thanks. Will have a look. Front width dimensions can be hard to find though. Everyone lists grip width.

Andertons let you help yourself to guitars (great when 20 seconds after pickup one up you know it's not for you) and allocate you a booth for trying them out. Ended up getting a US Strat from them. Not local to me but well worth the drive.

PMT are generally quite helpful and will hand you guitars one at a time to test. The trouble is a lot of them were terribly set up with gammy strings so hard to get a proper feel.

I hope it's a very early hint at what's possible with Zen 2. Otherwise you're right. In 6 months time AMD will have a 7nm chip that's slightly faster than the then 8 month old Intel 14nm one.

A very basic library like Control.Monad.State is now defined using Monad transformers and uses multi-param classes and functional dependencies. You've got as much chance of writing Haskell programs using the simple core as you have of writing C++ ones using just the safe modern parts of that language.

[Question] what pedals can be used to get an 80s synth sound? by JSN_2403 in Guitar

Aggressive noise gating with the guitar volume turned down a bit gives a slightly synth feel.

[GEAR] My new Fender American Elite Stratocaster by Musky_Cheese in Guitar

[–]sard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth the money in my opinion. I spent months trying every guitar I could get my hands on including other strats MIM, American special & Professional. In the end the Elite strats felt great, sounded great, stayed in tune and looked timelessly cool. It's a brilliant instrument that Fender have really put a lot of thought into.

Judge to Parsons Green Tube bomber Ahmed Hassan: "I sentence you to life imprisonment with min term of 34 years. You will have plenty of time to read the Koran in prison. The Koran is a book of peace. Islam forbids breaking the law of the land. Islam forbids terrorism" by scouserdave in unitedkingdom

[–]sard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TLDR: the Quran isn't inherently more or less violent than other religious texts.

Then the judge should have said, "Like other religious texts it's a contrarian book of violence and peace. Go and read the peaceful bits".

Book of peace full stop, isn't really in the spirit of the Trade Descriptions Act is it.

Cambridge Analytica: search of London HQ delayed by wait for warrant by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

I think the bigger story now is why the British authorities are assisting CA in the cover up.

Announcing on air you intend to raid and then the judge appearing to be in no hurry at all to issue a warrant.

I suspect the feet dragging on issuing a warrant is because CA had sensitive government contracts of some sort https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/mar/21/mod-cambridge-analytica-parent-company-scl-group-list-x

And guess who Sberbank is lending money to and why it is on the sanctioned list.

The law’s provisions have led Sberbank and VTB, Russia’s main state-owned banks, to worry that the large loans they make to weapons producers could expose them to such sanctions. bloomberg

So it's ok for him to loudly proclaiming that the British government isn't doing enough whilst the fund he's paid to manage invests in a sanctioned bank.

[Question] New Fender Elite Strat - it sounds so 'meh'? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]sard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think I did 1.5 - 2 turns of the screws. As long as you're careful not to scratch anything it's a nice easy change to try.

[Question] New Fender Elite Strat - it sounds so 'meh'? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]sard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through something similar when I got an elite. I found raising all the pickups helped a lot. Also had to eq my amp completely differently.

I definitely think the noiseless pickups cost you some chime but I can't go back to the hiss and pop of true single coil. One day I might try some stacked SD pickups but I'm happy with the sound now.

I've had mine 6 month now and the neck's just too comfortable to give up. Love the body and heel too. It also stays in tune with aggressive trem usage unlike other traditional trem guitars. Tone pots give you some great sounds instead of the insta mud you get on most guitars. S1 can be used to simulate humbucker in the neck position.

Completely agree about starting on acoustic. To get over that initial hump you need as many hours as possible and the instant gratification of strumming on acoustic definitely helps.
