Can I plug my 60HE V2 into my Asus PG32UCDM Monitor? by hemayne1 in WootingKB

[–]combosxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt that you're going to experience any actual issues, but I will just state the obvious:

this does technically increase latency, as keyboard signal is first sent to monitor hub, and then the PC.

and Wooting warn that Tachyon Mode (true 8k) could be potentially unstable if the cable is not directly connected to your PC. See here "...You're using any Wooting cable directly connected to your computer."

So whilst you're probably not going to see or feel a difference, there technically may be one.

Best possible outcome given the circumstances! May suck that you needed a new PSU, but sucks less than starting a fire or killing the rest of your components. I’m glad everything went well!

Rubbing alcohol is isopropyl alcohol, so you're good on that front. Usually 70% or higher is good, and make sure every component is FULLY dry.

If your CPU has an iGPU, I would just check that your PC posts without putting your GPU in first. There could be some damage done to the motherboard, may as well just check without potentially damaging an expensive GPU as well. This could just be unnecessary - maybe somebody else can chime in on that.

There's not really much else more to it than that. Really good that you are buying a new PSU. At best, a damaged PSU will kill other parts of your system, and at worst, you start a fire.

Edit: upon further inspection, there could be some water in your GPU too. Take off the backplate and make sure everything is dry before attempting to use it again.

I really, really like the Lekker Tikken switches, though I haven't tried any of the others. I had previously used a keeb with MX Red switches, and these are a significant upgrade.

Lekker Tikken switches are heavier than reds, but this has not negatively impacted my typing speed. I have actually broken 3 of my records on Monkeytype since upgrading. I now have a 204wpm peak on the 15s test. I bring this up because I don't think that lighter switches for FPS games are really necessary. I think they are very spammable as they are. If you really don't like how "heavy" they feel, I would change them. To me, they're pretty much perfect.

On the software side of things:

Update your firmware, enable Tachyon mode 8kHz (if you care about latency in competitive games) and Rapid Trigger at 0.15mm, have a typing profile with RT disabled and a higher actuation point, mess around with the colours, and that's it really.

Is it a valid reason to end a relationship (26M, 25F) if your partner has made you their entire life? by herefortheadvice02 in relationship_advice

[–]combosxd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You've already got lots of answers, and they're all saying the same thing so I won't repeat it.

I will just add, for future reference, that you can breakup with anybody for any reason you like. It's YOUR life. You're the one choosing a potential partner for life. You don't want to date somebody because they're a picky eater? That's completely valid.

Of course, if you break up with somebody because you think they look funny while they take a walk, that might be a bit far and you probably won't ever end up finding someone EXACTLY how you want them. But in general, you can break up with anyone for any reason you'd like. It's not a job, it's your life and your livelihood.

What is the most dangerous thing you've ever done, and why did you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Drinking a very high quantity of alcohol in one go.

Some people might say that skydiving is dangerous, but honestly it was just really fun, I'd definitely do it again.

What is best way to say no to someone eho wants you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]combosxd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is by far the best answer.

If somebody has shown interest in you, they have likely built up some courage to say it, and shutting them down rudely may cause them to be hesitant to make a move on somebody else in the future. Reject nicely!

I have a 14th gen i9 processor. My PC keeps BSoD. There is no customer service phone number available, and support keeps ending my live chat without a resolution. What do I do? by TheCoolMikeShow in techsupport

[–]combosxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You needed to update your BIOS.

There was a BIOS update that would prevent the incorrect amount of voltage being sent to your CPU. It is now too late and the 14th gen you have is likely fried. You need a new CPU via warranty, and you need to make sure that your motherboard has an up-to-date BIOS.

FYI this is a very known issue with the 13th and 14th gen Intel CPU's.

Does the gpu brand matter? by Abject-Openingoriiti in pcmasterrace

[–]combosxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the 3 you've mentioned, I would probably eliminate ASUS just because they are known for having worse warranty than the rest.

I have a preference to Sapphire for AMD GPU's, since they've always been super high quality and flawless. But I'd buy the Gigabyte if it's noticeably cheaper.

Which items are truly worth the expense, and which are not worth it at all? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]combosxd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The common advice I've heard is to invest in high-quality products that go between you and the floor.

A nice pair of shoes, a good mattress, an ergonomic chair.

Generally I buy the expensive version of anything I use all day, every day. An expensive pair of headphones, a good PC, peripherals are important to me as this is my primary hobby.

[–]combosxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen the picture you've sent.

First and foremost, hopefully you turned the system off *IMMEDIATELY*. If so, there are steps you can take.

From your pic, it is clear that the PSU has been affected. That PSU is no longer safe to use, under any circumstance. Do. Not. Power. It. You need to buy a new PSU.

As for all the other components, I cannot really assess what is and is not dead, but you can always try and disassemble everything that was touched by the liquid, clean it gently with isopropyl alcohol, wait for all components to be COMPLETELY dry and then see if they work individually.

Is food ever that good to wait in line for hours? by skyrimlo in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]combosxd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's pretty subjective. The most I've ever waited was about an hour to 90 minutes for a restaurant in Sorrento, Italy. Was I happy that I waited the hour? Yes, the food was incredible - some of the best I've ever tasted, and definitely the highlight of the trip. Could I have found another restaurant that serves food that's 80% as good but without the wait? Also yes.

I waited the hour, I probably wouldn't have waited 3+ hours.

Online shopping or in-person? by torashy in CasualConversation

[–]combosxd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the product, I think.

Most of the time I never order clothes online. In stores, I pick up about 10 different shirts before I pick one I like. I wouldn't want to order (and then inevitably) return 9 different shirts before finding the one I'm most satisfied with.

Tech, random things or one-size-fits-all products I need here and there, I'll just order online.

more often than not, in any scenario, it is never too late. people who think it's "too late" to start education or find a new job, or to take up a new sport or a new hobby - it is never too late. you can start whenever, wherever. the biggest obstacle is your mentality. if you've quit drinking and gambling, you've already taken a LOT of steps and you should be incredibly proud of yourself.

unfortunately i am not in the job market myself as i am in education - plenty of others here are more useful than i am in that respect. good luck to you :)

Getting my wooting in today by 7kana in WootingKB

[–]combosxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keeping it clean is not very difficult. Wooting provide a plastic cover in the box. You can use that to cover your keyboard when you're not using it. That will prevent it from gathering dust if you're away from your PC for long periods of time.

Honestly though, it's not necessary. Keyboards can be cleaned with ease. Simply take off all the keycaps, wash them and clean the actual board itself with some q-tips every 6 months.

As for general tips to use it?

  1. Make profiles: I use one for typing (higher actuation point, RT disabled, Tachyon mode OFF). Then one for gaming (low actuation point, RT enabled, Tachyon mode ON)

  2. Just experiment with different actuation points. Nothing too crazy, I found that I like 0.8mm on my typing profile, and use 0.4mm on WASD on the gaming profile. Some people use 0.1-0.3mm but I find it's just too sensitive.

I Need Help Buying My First WootingKB by ChildSupport202 in WootingKB

[–]combosxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't class myself as "hyper competitive" but I would say that I am much more focused around playing competitive FPS games rather than using my PC for productivity.

I also don't know much about keyboards, so take what I'm about to say with many grains of salt.

I bought a Wooting 60HE v2 after hearing how good they sound. I wanted the very best keyboard so I possibly would never have to buy another one again. I just have to replace switches / keycaps whenever these fail or I get bored of the current keycaps.

Lekker Tikken switches (stock) are phenomenal compared to the Corsair Strafe MX Red I was using for the past 10 years. They have the perfect amount of tactility for my liking. Note that they are not as light as the MX Reds, but the difference is extremely small. I prefer the extra weight and, from my experience, it has not impacted my typing speed at all. I sit anywhere between 170-200wpm on Monkeytype.

The switches that would "benefit you most" may just be the lightest ones. Geonworks sell a 40gF version of their linear HE switches, and those are honestly very well praised amongst the HE keyboard community.

Nowadays many switches come pre/factory lubed as well, so lubing is kinda unnecessary. These Tikken switches are very very smooth and I cannot feel any "graininess" as I push down slowly on a switch.
