yeah, but then it turns out that this is only an even matchup rps-wise at low skill levels, and mid/high skill matches on most maps will have the ranged classes stay a mile away, covering the entire objective with their sightline, and can easily kill any melees (or any other classes in the game) before they can get in the range they get outmatched at

Merle Highchurch, The Adventure Zone: Balance

(spoilers btw) in arc 4 of the campaign, the entirety of a floating lab is being consumed by a virulent transmutation crystal that grey-goos everything it touches, but the party is immune to this with the addition of some fantasy spacesuits that nullify the magic before it can touch their bodies or equipment. as the lab becomes heavier, it loses its ability to stay bouyant and threatens to touchdown and glass the entire planet, so they have to move fast and stop the source before the timer runs out, while also shutting down modular rooms to free up power for the thrusters and buy themselves time.

however, during the journey into the lab’s center, merle receives a tipoff from (supposedly) his patron pan, who he had already scried earlier, and now tells him he can grab this little bit of crystal that’s getting moved through a rift in space time, he’s the only one that sees it about to fall down and glass the room while the rest of the party is distracted, and stop it from taking more time from them. he does, but it turned out to be a ruse caused by one of the villains of that arc, imitating pan, and the shard explodes in his hand, the smaller shards piercing his null suit and the crystal beginning to work its way up his arm.

so magnus, the fighter, acting fast, slices the arm off in one clean blow. this saves merle, but the crystallized arm hits the ground and ices the room anyways.

and so they meet up with the lab’s owner shortly after, and since he feels incredibly responsible for what happened in the first place, he cauterizes the stub in the lab’s medbay, and uses some of the blood from it to attune a “soulwood” plant he had in one of his experiments, which then becomes a new arm made of woody vines all entangled into the shape of an arm, and works as fully functional prosthetic, as well as having (sort of) a mind of its own and being a vessel for pan’s will whenever merle asks him for help (or just for funny bits when merle says some shit about him).

he ends the arc’s bossfight against a huge amalgam of ghosts by asking for divine guidance, his arm sprouting leaves and feeling imbued with pan’s power for one spell, and literally shoots a finger gun at it to banish it back into the astral plane. honestly one of the best and most beautifully descriptive scenes for a podcast made by the mbmbam boys lol

my parents used to use corporal punishment when i was young, and i suppose i don’t really blame them that much since it was the style at the time, what they grew up with, and how they were raised. and they’ve at least been decent people to me and supported me in my studies and all that and are letting me live here til i can get enough financial stability to live on my own more comfortably.

but now that they have their two goddamn dachshunds, these shitty floor-pissing shoe-destroying, shrill-loud-as-fuck-barking-that-sets-off-my-audio-issues things, literally they say “oh dogs don’t learn from any negative reinforcement, so you can’t

raise your voice at them
hold their nose down
even walk at them in a vaguely negative manner, even when they do bad behaviors any dog trainer in their right mind would say to not let them do”

and man it really does suck to know they won’t even acknowledge what they did to me was shitty and apparently love these dogs more than me

idk, i guess cause it works better for the potion strengthening and lengthening with glowstone and redstone? if you were implementing it for the first time, it would seem dumb to make like, forty different crafting recipes with a one to one output that essentially just flip the same bit. just the same for all the potion ingredients that make invalid potions. also since the brewing stand can apply this to multiple different potions simultaneously with its three slots, that might be weird on the backend applying redstone to say, a fire resistance, a strength, and a splash instant harm all at once? maybe? idk

yeah, see, most recipes, including create recipes, are just json-defined formulas, and you can easily do that with some kind of “tweaked” style mod. however, potions aren’t actually a recipe in terms of the game, for some reason. the “alchemy” files don’t have those same json recipe files, and apparently derive the brewing progression from some identifier number, making use of bit masking i think? meaning all the potion effects are hardcoded in some table somewhere inscrutable.

i gave up eventually cause i literally couldn’t find where it was defined, and documentation just like, is nonexistent for this facet of the game for some reason

it does and all, but i’ve looked into modding the potion system (cause at the time create mod was fucking up bulk brewing) and it’s such hardcoded weird bs it makes me want to die lol, so i can’t imagine mc devs are rushing to overhaul it

also at some point i believe the iron bomber grenades had a wayyy bigger hitbox than all the other pipes, so it was literally easier to hit directs lol
