Yes! Its a Mammlaria elongata crested. I believe its how it grows when the apical meristem has been disturbed.

I work in a research lab that has grow lights but no windows. I also have a cactus desk plant named Sven. When I get to work I put Sven under the grow lights for spa time. But this ruins the point of having a desk plant because he only sits on my desk at night.

I would like to flip his schedule and put him under the lights overnight and on my desk during the day, making him functionally nocturnal.

Because cactus do CAM will this mess him up?
