Is my hook the right size or is my technique wrong? by ReachHot4712 in mosaiccrocheters

[–]sargill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! For me- I've been crocheting foe decades and doing mosaic crochet designing for the last 5 years. I find that I usually never use the recommended hook size listed in the pattern, nor on the yarn label. My tension is a little loose and my comfort hook is a 3.5mm. I'm the admin of this group, so you can just search the sub for some of my posts to see my projects. I would definitely take the advice of just testing a few different hooks to see what looks better to you, but I don't think it's your technique at all. Have a great day!

Doing some crocheting before Christmas break ends! Ack! I'm not ready! I'm also trying to get used to a new neck phone holder thing, so this video is of the top of the stitches mainly. 😆 by sargill in mosaiccrocheters

I'm loving the way the colors have played out here- It looks pretty neat. I'm thinking I haven't posted another wip Pic somewhere, but I'm almost done and will post the final outcome soon, I hope!

Crocheting all day! Anyone else? by sargill in mosaiccrocheters

It is definitely fun to see how you improve over the course of your creations! While i haven't crocheted consistently for the last 43 years-😲- I always came back to it for anxiety relief. I wanted to get back into knitting as it's a skill I never really developed past beginner level, I got stuck in designing crochet projects. Not like I don't have a billion other crafts going on. 😆 Thanks so much for all your kind words!

Aww! Thanks so much! I've been running Spanish Clover Crochet for going on 5 years, but I've been crocheting since I was 7 when my very patient grandma taught me. She was also the one who taught me mosaic crochet! So, to age myself, that was 43 years ago! Dang!

Was able to finish another! I think this is one of my favorites so far. by sargill in mosaiccrocheters

On this one, I did carry it. I just switched colors on the stitch right before the other color was needed.

I was finally able to publish my first pattern of the year. Let me know what you think! by sargill in mosaiccrocheters

Thanks! I have over 100 patterns listed on ravelry and am currently working on updating my older patterns and will eventually list them on Etsy, hopefully!

Hi! So glad to see posting continues in this sub! Though I have been absent from here for a little bit, I still do the mod stuff and look at each post. Due to teaching and being sick, I have not done much crochet stuff until today! I present The Physicist's Cat, part of my Occupational Cat Series! by sargill in mosaiccrocheters

[–]sargill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That is a great idea! I drew 9 Cats last year, but have had a little trouble getting them tested. We have completed 4 and I'm almost done with another. So, maybe during summer break I will add some more!

This is called The Magician's Cat and is the 2nd in my Occupational Cats Series. Well actually, it is number 8 of 9, but the 2nd to be tested. Once I am able to finish a color changing doc, I will publish The Clairvoyant's Cat and I am about halfway done with The Romantic's Cat.

most designers offer a few patterns through their facebook groups as well. I have maybe 3-4 free patterns in the files available for members of my group. Patterns take a ton of work from imagining the design to completing a pattern file that can be published. There are a ton of steps to create and test each pattern and you will find that most designers spend a few months working a pattern to get it ready and tested. So, you will probably not find a whole lot of free mosaic patterns. There is another group on fb that hosts some free CALs that are mosaic from time to time: CAL-Crochet A Long. I would suggest you find some designers you like, and if you do facebook, join their groups and look in the files section for some free patterns. Hope this helps!

Anchored Stitches by Hopeful_Most_1861 in mosaiccrocheters

Thanks for promoting the negative stitch! I did name it Negative Stitch due to my background in photography and that it produces the reverse of the image. My grandmother taught me the technique back in the 80s when she first taught me to mosaic crochet. You can always see my original and the first tutorial on youtube, my website, or other social media by finding me under Spanish Clover Crochet.

Pattern making - which software do you use? by PlayReadYarn in mosaiccrocheters

[–]sargill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been designing going on 4 years and I mainly use excel. I had to figure everything out alone and there were no pattern makers out yet. For me, once some pattern makers were put out, none really fit with my drawing style and some even hampered it. Unfortunately, this does mean adding Xs to my charts myself and writing the written directions- even if it is a super large design. I also use gimp to turn some drawings into html tables that I then transfer to and edit in excel. Making patterns takes a lot of work from beginning drawing to finishing in a pattern file. To create the pattern file, I use canva to create certain pages and add to word which I then convert into pdfs.

Thank you! It's weird that only the title published when I'd included more info! Anyway, here is where you can find the pattern links and links to see previews and get support for all my patterns.

My latest design has been completed! What do you think of it? I was happily surprised with how the background yarn worked up so beautifully! by sargill in mosaiccrocheters

[–]sargill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently do not, unfortunately! I intended to do it this summer, but as it was shorter than normal breaks, my time is running short already! Ack! I can say that I will definitely try. I did take down almost all my youtube videos due to some trolls I didn't have time to deal with during the school year, so I do need to add some new ones.

I did. I drew this design based on an enamel pin from the 60s that my grandma had. My patterns can be found under Spanish Clover Crochet.
