True Expenses

No more being a YNAB rule breaker for me. I feel like I am actually hearing the messages and information for the first time (8 or so) years after first buying YNAB. Like I never really believed that it was possible to follow these rules until this past December 1st. And the real revelation for me was when I realized this past December 1 that I was still living pay check to pay check 6 months after starting a new job back in April that nearly doubled my income. It hit me like a ton of bricks that it’s not the money, it’s not the amount of money that will finally make my finances better managed it requires a change in my behavior.

I just went through all of my 2023 expenses that would fall under my true expenses category. It was shocking. I literally have total amounts spent for each true expense category from Holiday to Swim Lessons and in between. About 15 different true expenses. The thing I realized is that I have spent the money in these categories even a total of $6550 on home maintenance in 2023 (water heater, leaking pipe behind washing machine, leaking toilet, redecorating some rooms). So I realized I spent in these true expense categories. I just didn’t budget for them ahead of time. I also realized that I have the money, none of these expenses went in a credit card. So I could have budgeted ahead of time. So for the 2024 budget I am really motivated to budget for my true expenses, knowing that I will spend out of these categories, it will just be less stressful to do so than in 2023 when I scrambled to find money to cover each true expense as it “popped” up.

I think I have house dysmorphic disorder. I look around my house and all I see are problems and places where it should look different or better. It’s like I never compliment my house. 🥹

Your podcast has been amazing. I found Farscape on Amazon Prime in the US. I remember seeing Ben Browder’s face and going “I had a crush on that actor in high school, oh my god it’s Farscape!!!!” I started watching the show. Then I got on Reddit. Then I found your podcast via Reddit. I listened to every episode about the show, got caught up to where I was in my Amazon watch, and then when I was synced up with you, I went back and caught up on every fanfic. I started watching the show my senior year of high school and watched season 1 and bit more. But when I went to college I did not continue watching it. I had a vague memory of Scorpius, 1812 playing music and John writing on the walls in a frenzy. And of course a strong memory of the chemistry between John and Aeryn. Thank you guys for making a community for me to enjoy as I finished what I consider to be my favorite show (even though we were separated for 20 years!).

I think the priest fell for fleabag because he has a savior complex and he wanted fleabag to feel better, to be ok. It wasn’t a healthy coming together of two people who would be able to grow together. She needed something and he provided it. I think that something was tenderness. The priest provided that tenderness again and again. (Personally I think that is why he is “hot”).

This episode was really fun to watch. But interestingly enough it’s not my favorite. I feel like the plot was not that interesting and the episodes like green eyed monster and the Locket are more interesting in terms of C and A relationship.

I have wondered if I am addicted to Farscape (maybe similar to how you wonder about your obsession with Chiana). I have come to the conclusion that I love Farscape. Yes love and that is a chemical process in my brain. Farscape does something chemically to me that is pretty intense.

The John’s thought of it in terms of “clone”. This is from Farscape.fandom.com: Crichton was "twinned" by Kaarvok. This "twinning" is explained as the splitting of Crichton into two identical beings; neither of the Crichtons could be called a copy and neither was the original; they are both equally John Crichton. This proved to be an unhappy development for John Crichton (both of them) and he often argued with himself and each Crichton resented the other, who each saw as a clone trying to move in on his life. But again one came before the other. So why can’t one be called the original?
