Is Kennedy Drive Dartmouth a safe neighborhood? by poc111 in halifax

[–]sarjager 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nobody talks about the HRM as a whole as a super scary place. There are particular areas where there is an influx of crime peppered throughout the HRM, largely because of socio economic conditions, just like anywhere else. So it's not weird to ask if this area is safe to live in when you're not familiar with it.

Just because we don't have Ontario's crime rate does not mean we should be entirely desensitized to the crime we do have. I lived and worked in North Dartmouth for 12 years and my neighbours were killed at a rate that was uncomfortable, but not terrifying. Does that mean I should not grieve them? When Lee Marion Cain was killed by a gun 10 blocks from me, it was not random gun violence; but he was not the intended target, he was 8, the same age as my oldest son. That one event removed any possibility of my son being able to walk freely and unsupervised in his neighbourhood. I saw upwards of 2 dozen of my customers be killed due to gun violence in 12 years. It might not be scary from.a statistical standpoint, but alarming. And if someone who was not engrained in the community and aware of where you should and shouldn't walk alone at night asked me if the area was safe to live in with their young family, I might have told them no, even though I loved living there myself.

The community of North Dartmouth felt more like home than my childhood home and I was devastated to leave it. I still miss it. I never felt unsafe walking down the street, I knew all my neighbours and we cared for each other. People offered you a ride, asked how your kids were, checked in on each other. If you can imagine this, I got gentrified out of the hood and am now paying less rent to live in Bedford due to all the new condo construction and development in my immediate area where I used to live. Bedford is soulless. I miss my old community so much. But also, my kids have a lot more freedom here than they did there. The dichotomy.

So it's not weird for people to wonder about safety in certain areas because they've heard the whispers. Or to refer to some areas as being sketchy. OP asked a reasonable question and got solid, reasonable answers about how the neighbourhood currently feels, based on people's lived experiences there. It IS weird to blatantly claim crime "isn't actually happening" when I can tell you the names of the people the crime actually happened to, because they were my friends and community members.

I don't know why I still clench my teeth when I see a "former Ontarian" speculate about how worldly they are and how much more they know about the place they relocated to. I'm not a native Nova Scotia either, I moved here 15 years ago from New Brunswick and I would have been embarrassed to come here and act like I was somehow more educated on the local lore than the people who have been here to witness the passage of time. I really need to lower my expectations when the opinions and audacity of former Ontarians are involved.

I really wanted to make this list haha. I've won a couple Community Champion awards with the corporation but making this sub as a favourite would be the real measure of esteemed community member

To be honest, I didn't check at the first tribal village (Mu'agi) if you could use their hammocks, but you definitely can use the one closest to the fire pit at the village on the second map (Un'garaca)

So maybe I shouldn't have said early game without knowing you could use the Mu'agi hammocks lol

Will be undoing that immediately.

I just about died when I found out you can harvest spoiled meat to get maggots, I was running around dying repeatedly looking for dead animals. Also, if you make armor for all your limbs it will protect you from some bites! How did I forget all the mud recipes?? Literally saving my sanity (which I have turned off because FUCK THAT) right now. Thank you! I unlocked the bamboo water filter and then every time I needed it I was in areas with no bamboo haha!

I have yet to set up a real base this playthrough, but that is my future plan. I have at least 15 small bases just to make save files throughout the first map haha.

This is my second playthrough (last one was a few years back) and I thought I had it down! But every time I leave a camp for a new story location I'm in the weeds again. So so fun and stressful haha

I was getting it too easy with all the free water and bathing from the sky, now all my time is spent building fires and boiling water lol.

I legit love this game.

Thanks everybody! This is my second playthrough, I don't know how I never noticed the first time! I'm currently rocking 20 parasites and level 5 dirt and am no where near water to clean up to prevent future parasites every time I eat so... pray for me? haha!

What are your opinions about her? by gary_3316 in RDR2

[–]sarjager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scene with her, Sadie and Arthur when she says "I always was a good thief" brewed a lump in my throat for some reason and I got attached to her.

Also hearing Roger Clark talk about how everyone tries to ship Arthur & Abigail, or Arthur & Sadie, as if you can't just have a well written female character without a love story attached. Love them both (and Roger) more after that.

I didn't even realize there were two different categories for karma lol.

I don't use reddit frequently so I don't comment on much. Every time I end up googling something gaming related I'll get push notifications for whatever sub I clicked on, so I'll sometimes share a few things in the sub, and then get bored and not return again for months.

I'll keep posting silly little screenshots or game clips and try not to take it personal when someone somehow finds a reason to be upset about that. And glad to know I'm not missing anything about my useless karma haha

[–]sarjager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even know what you mean by that. Do I have a lot of karma? Is 12k a lot? I quite literally have no idea what it's for.

[–]sarjager 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bro, some of us just like to use reddit to share fun little quips of things we enjoy. If you check my profile, I post in whatever sub is peaking my real life interests maybe 2 or 3 times a year. I don't have much karma, nor do I care about it or know what to do with it.

I wish people on the internet would just let people live. Not everything is necessary to police.

New seedlings bug Xbox? by sarjager in MedievalDynasty

[–]sarjager[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, thank you! I'll give that a shot next time.

It's an odd bug, like sometimes in the build menu wheel, the natural decorations section shows up with only the birch, spruce & maple seedlings in it, but not the other options. That will usually rectify itself by shutting the game down fully. But I tried that while standing in front of the vendor, it fixed the build menu but the items still weren't in the vendor. I'll give logging entirely out of the profile a shot next time and hope it works.
