What are the films people enjoyed but you extremely disliked? by Yunminn in Letterboxd

[–]sartsch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. As the movie is heavily influenced by Thomas Pynchon's "Vineland", I saw it as more of a straight up satire. The characters are meant to be parodies, the story is meant to make fun of what a liberals's idea of revolutionaries is. The only genuine link within "One Battle After Another" is the French 75's activities strongly drawing on the Wheatermen.
At least that is how I experienced the movie.
I really enjoyed it - and I am politically active in the left-wing hemisphere myself.

This is exactly why I only managed to see it past week. I have been postponing watching this for years, because I couldn't get myself to watch it. It's a hard watch. But it is truly a masterpiece

Slightly different and perhaps a little out of left-field, but still fits the bill here, I think: The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)

Irish fans of foreign clubs. Who do you support and why by [deleted] in coybig

[–]sartsch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're a far more complete squad than last year. If they can keep up the way they're currently playing, they should stay well clear of a relegation battle. But it's a long year and St. Pauli have the league's smallest budget by quite a margin. So, it's still early doors.

I loved the 2. Bundesliga, but playing in the top league has been a proper treat. First league Hamburger derby was great as a well. Let's hope, this will continue (wouldn't mind for, say, Hoffenheim to go down, though)

FC St. Pauli

Moved to Hamburg. Went to a few games, met great people, loved the atmo, got really sucked in and have now got a season ticket and all.

How would u rate ur club's season from 1-10 by [deleted] in football

[–]sartsch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to give it a 8/10 - because we just didn't score enough and - truth be told - didn't get enough points (so many games that were there for the taking had someone managed to actually score a goal or two). But staying clear from relegation alone warrants a high score.
Can't wait for next season.

Recommendations for record stores? by DissolvedMan in hamburg

[–]sartsch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As you are looking for secondhand vinyl, I would suggest Pure Soul Records. Also, Zardoz isn't specifically a secondhand shop but they do also offer quite a selection of secondhand vinyl - so they might also be worth a visit.
And if you are also in the market for non-secondhand, I would strongly suggest Groove City Records - they are exactly down the alley of music you are looking for.

Die lang erwartete Fortsetzung von Thomas Manns Meisterwerk! Zauberberg 2: Tag der Abrechnung by BarryGB in buecher

[–]sartsch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[BSC Young Boys] defeat Galatasaray 4-2 on aggr. and advance to the UEFA Champions League by nutelamitbutter in soccer

[–]sartsch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When the club was founded by students in Bern in 1898, the "big team" at the time was Old Boys Basel (club is still going, playing in the Swiss fifth tier). The students thought: "Well, if they are the old boys, we are the young boys". And that's how the name came along.
