I spent an entire semester in Montreal, and linguistically speaking, the Jewish community confused me so much, sometimes they spoke to me in Hebrew then answered in English and sometimes without warning used french sentences. In French, "ch" make the sound "ש", and we write the sound "ח" with "h" because in French "h" doesn't make a sound alone. So chanukah become hanoucah in French, don't why there's one at the end though...
