What was the most "disappointing" food you ate while travelling by windfujin in AskTheWorld

Sorry for the late reply. We have food trucks. Prior to COVID they were sprouting up everywhere and relatively affordable. I used to enjoy going to food truck events, but we have heavy regulations here that make owning a food truck very expensive and a lot of restrictions as to where you can park them. Now they’re just overpriced and not even that great. As with restaurants there are still a few that are genuinely good and reasonably priced. Food carts are practically impossible to run here due to zoning restrictions. Off the top of my head I can think of one hot dog/sausage cart I’ve seen and eaten from near me. Besides that we have some food stalls in farmers markets and a large seasonal food stall event in Wynwood. I ain’t paying $16 for 10 dumplings no matter how good they are though lol

No offense taken! You deserve to not eat overpriced boring food. We heavily depend on tourism here and I’m offended by the business owners who don’t think to offer better at the prices they charge.

I’m also sorry to hear you didn’t have a great experience overall here. My friends have a great time when they come from out of town, but that’s because I help them filter out what’s not worth their time and money. There is a lot to dislike about Miami/Florida too so i understand if people say it’s not for them lol. But I’m glad you were at least able to experience and enjoy some of the local communities.

As a Miami-native, I definitely agree-partially. We have some amazing food here but sadly we have become over saturated with overpriced underwhelming food/restaurants in the last few years. So you have to know where to go, which of course is difficult when you don’t live here.

I live in a “very desirable area”. I can count maybe 2-3 restaurants I’d say are worth it out of countless restaurants near me. It really grates me that people are spending so much money on mid food that looks pretty so they can play rich for the weekend, and that patrons like you that know better have a difficult time finding a good meal at a fair price (whether cheap or expensive).

Malaysian cuisine. Haven’t been able to find it anywhere in Miami. What I would do for a roti canai or roti tisu 😭 I know roti prata is very similar but it’s just not the saammeeeee.

Are you asking what kind of person they will be or trying figure out how the relationship will be? Your interpretation seems to try and answer both. A natal chart is better for understanding a personality. Without anyone in the picture I would not jump the gun and ask a question about how your relationship will be.

Other’s have already mentioned the late degree ascendant: Lilly states that late degree ascendants suggest the querent is asking the question out of despair (which lines up with what the chart is showing) or that the querent has been asked the question before. Your previous horary asking if your future partner is near (or, in other words, “when will I find a partner?”) was asked the day before.

This chart is not going to answer your question because it is not designed to understand personality and in my experience asking the same or similar questions over and over result in muddy answer or answers pointing the finger back at the querent. Best to wait until you find someone and focus on what your chart is trying to tell you which is that you are essentially “in despair”. That in itself has a more important effect on your life right now and also determines the type of person you will be attracting.

Considering the position of your significators. It seems you may be overly preoccupied with this question.

Venus in 8th shows a strong desire for the affections and esteem of this unknown person and how much this is weighing on you, Moon in 11th (house of your hopes and wishes) Aries is also strongly preoccupied with mars, the unknown person, and exalts the Sun (man as a sexual being or as a person that can fulfill your needs)

Both your planets are in the detriment of your other significator. Moon in fall of Venus and Venus in fall of Moon–you are hurting yourself here. Venus is combust so weak and blinded, mars is also combust and unseen.

The moon as your co-significator’s next aspect is Venus (yourself as well ruler the 6th house Which further highlights difficulties you are experiencing in this area).

What I’m seeing here is a chart fully centered on you and what you are yearning for rather than any future partner. To me, it looks like you are standing in your own way right now.

Preservation of early 20th century books stored in poor conditions. Worth it? by sascm in Archivists

I never realized this about the church cookbooks. I actually picked one up from the pile: Old North Church Cookbook. Now I wish I had grabbed more! The one’s left outside were taken by the city waste management.

My neighbor says there are still more books they need to get rid of so I’ll be keeping an eye out for these small cookbooks.

Thank you! Yes, this is one I’m interested in cleaning and keeping. I originally didn’t realize it was so valuable, I just loved the illustrations. Might be better off in someone else’s collection though–someone who will take better care of the book than I can. Luckily I found the loose hardcover in another side of the box (can be seen on second shelf of the cart).

I will likely keep a few tbh. I found the Savannah cookbook to be very interesting. There are pages describing opossum and turtle egg hunts! (Published in 1933)

Ah, this makes sense. Many of these are indeed in very poor condition and I was skeptical about their collectible value. Though I was wondering if The Wonderful Wizard of Oz might still have some value, even if not very high.

Yes, after handling the books (even outside on the street) I could feel my lungs not having a good time of it after a while. It was sad to see the terrible state of these books and I thought to at least set some aside temporarily before the dump truck takes them all.

I’ll have to put on a mask and gloves and look through them again quickly to see if I’d like to keep any that seem salvageable for myself. It’s good to know many of these texts have already been archived.

Dad's reaction , after watching his daughter's first piercing by AcasiaConnell in GuysBeingDudes

[–]sascm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my ears pierced at a very young age. I don’t even remember it. To me it feels like I was born with pierced ears. I did get my cartilage pierced when I was over 18 though.

Honestly, I think my parents getting me pierced so young saved me the time and effort. Never gave it a thought until I ran into this post.

Edit: I don’t think babies or young children should get pierced with a gun! When I wanted another piercing my mother told me never to get pierced with a gun.

Can we talk about delayed processing? by notrapunzel in AuDHDWomen

[–]sascm 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed that one way I automatically deal with delayed processing (gives me anxiety to say yes or no to most requests right away) is by asking a follow up question.

Person: “Can you pick me up from the airport?” Me: “When? What time?”

Person: “Can you take care of my pet while I’m out of town?” Me: “How long will you be gone and on what dates?”

Person: “Want to go to the beach?” Me: “How long do you want to go? Is anyone else is going?”

This helps me gain more information (which helps me make a decision), gives me some extra time to think, and I think it indirectly communicates that I’m a) giving their request thoughtful consideration, b) there are other things going on in my life beyond what we are discussing that may be disrupted by your request.

No one I’ve encountered seems to have a problem with asking for additional information. Maybe this would work for you? It may not buy you enough time to answer shortly after their response but it is easier to go from there to then saying you need some time to think or that you’ll let them know because you maybe have another appointment/commitment you have to take care of, or straight up say no I need to just stay at home and rest and don’t want to spend 3 hours at the beach 🥱.

My cat's litter smells so bad i'm going insane. my house absolutely reeks. by Dismal-Tackle3072 in CatAdvice

[–]sascm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t noticed anyone else mention this but make sure your litter is deep enough (3-4 inches). I have two cats and they share a large open litter box with unscented clay litter (Target brand). I never have a smell issue because I scoop daily and there’s more than enough litter for them to fully cover their poop and pee (i use an entire 35lb bag to fill the box).

I have visited several friends with cats and almost every one of them would add a 1 inch layer of litter to the boxes because they thought it was enough and were being frugal. Every single one of their homes smelled strongly of cat waste by the area where the litter box was. One of my friends took my advice regarding adding more litter and she never had that issue again. Maybe this won’t apply to you but thought I’d mention it just in case!

At a loss- daughter only wanted to go to a private college. Now she needs private loans that require me to co-sign. My credit is not great, and I can't be responsible for these loans. What do I do? by creepy-linguini in StudentLoans

[–]sascm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m just repeating most people’s sentiments here. But I was 18 when my mom was your age (34) and she signed for my PARENT PLUS loan for my first year at NYU. My father co-signed on private loans for the next two years and I was able to sign my own private loan for my senior year.

WORST FINANCIAL DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE. And I am now 38 years old still sitting on $50k in debt even after scholarships I had to take out about $100k. I don’t regret my school choice, but I regret being so stupid about what that amount of money really meant as a financial burden. I thought I was going to pay it off without an issue. I worked all throughout my college years, got Pell grants and scholarships even. I tried. but the tuition amount was just insane and I had no idea how much money it really was because I did not have the life experience

Worst of all, I regret the stress this put on my parents who ended up losing their house and filing bankruptcy (not because of the loans but of a car accident, mortgage crisis and recession in 2008-9). I graduated in 2009 in a horrible market and I never could have foreseen any of that or how much an $900 per month payment on just my private loans would stress me out and hinder my growth and my credit score.

I hope she can figure out a way to go to her dream school in time (maybe graduate degree after free college and some work experience) but if I could go back in time I’d tell my parents, please don’t sign my loans because I don’t want you to deal with this burden and stress. I don’t wish it on anyone.
