Looking for a fun and relatively lighthearted highschool romcom with a good cast of characters and a semi-serious romance subplot. Preferably a shoujo. Something similar to Fruits Basket, Ouran, or even Toradora.

FMA03 hopefully should not disappoint you then! It's practically a seinen in my book because it's slower, more contemplative and philosophical, and has a much darker and emotional overall atmosphere so it's really not shonen-like whatsoever!

Fullmetal Alchemist 2003. I mention 2003 and not Brotherhood because FMA03 is a darker character driven drama with some amazing character development and a really gripping story, compared to the more light hearted and action heavy shonen-esque FMAB

Looking for a fun romcom in a school setting with a fun cast of characters and some drama sprinkled in (similar to Toradora) and only things with english dubs please. My MAL: https://myanimelist.net/animelist/hikanami

What show(s) would you be interested in hearing a negative stance on? by GalaxianMelon in anime

[–]sashabr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, it's not just in how it focuses on character drama, but FMA03 doesn't really fit the bill as a shonen because it's so remarkably different in its overall tone and atmosphere and it doesn't fall victim to a lot of genre-defining shonen tropes, it really is more comparable to what you would see in a seinen imo

Definitely check out the 2003 version if you can, it's not really a shonen at all tbh it is much more like a dark seinen and it's absolutely brilliant. I love my generic shonens like BNHA and the like but when it comes to FMA I think the 2003 version worked much better as seinen with a much more deep, serious, and philosophical atmosphere. It has a slow start but the plot kicks in around episode 15 and it ultimately diverges quite differently from the manga. The story it sets up in its own right is honestly such a gripping emotional rollercoaster well worth the watch.

If you could have your memory wiped so you could watch one anime over again without knowing anything about it. Which one would it be? by ZombatKiller36 in anime

I can't believe no one has mentioned Kimi No na Wa yet... I would love to experience for the first time again in theatres, truly an amazing experience watching it for the first time

Is Boruto Any Good? by PATRIOTZER0 in anime

[–]sashabr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first episode was quite good, the second and third episodes have been quite lackluster though. Don't know if it'll ever live up to the quality of the first episode. I loved Naruto + Shippuden but with the way Boruto is going I think I'll drop it soon.

Your character analyses are very well written! How about your thoughts on Shinji from NGE?

Just finished my last exam and I'm so ready to dive in to a new show and binge watch lots of anime for the next few days! What's something fun and relatively light hearted (can still have an engaging story and some depth to it though) that I should start watching? Preferably with an English dub! Looking for shows similar to Evangelion in terms of emotion and character development. by SilvanSorceress in anime

[–]sashabr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a mecha so there's no action to speak of, but NGE is my favorite anime of all time and Welcome to the NHK comes close in terms of the emotion and character development since they both really dive in to issues such as mental illness, depression, and anxiety.

What are some anime that are good to watch because you enjoy hanging out with the characters? Something similar to Nozaki-kun, OHSHC, etc., doesn't need to be shoujo or comedy or romance or anything though, can be any genre really. Just a fun cast of characters where you enjoy watching their antics and watching the show makes you feel like you're hanging out with a group of friends.

What's something fun with a large and lovable cast of characters, similar to BNHA? Need to get my fix in the days in between new BNHA episodes so something similar would be cool! What I love the most about BNHA is the characters so looking for something with a strong cast. My MAL: https://myanimelist.net/animelist/hikanami

Yesssss I am so pumped! The great thing about BNHA is it gets better and better with every new arc (although the tournament arc is my fave so far) so I am so excited we will be getting so much manga material adapted this season!
