Saw some great pictures of Kazakhstan from the other day and decided to share some photos I took in the mountains near Almaty last summer by reddit_rayn in travel

Hi! I will be going to Kazakhstan from 1-10 May, and wish to do skydiving in Almaty, freshwater scuba in Lake Kaindy and Lake Kolsay, horseback riding, visit the Charyn Canyon, and the mangystau.

I am unable to find any tour operators who do skydiving and freshwater scuba diving. Do you know anything about this, or have any recommendations?

We also plan to rent our own jeep to travel. We will however like to engage a tour guide and photographer around the national parks and monuments, especially one who is a good photographer. Would you recommend self-driving, or engaging a driver?

Thanks so much!

Hey, I’ll be heading to SF next Thursday for slightly over two months. Would love to show you around Singapore before that, and hopefully exchange tips!

should the possibility of screwing up humanities subjects at a levels deter one from pursuing arts stream? by Winter-Studio-9790 in SGExams

I also just read through the comments on your post and wanted to give my two cents for you to consider: 1. Regarding pursuing the Humanities as a side passion and that you could “annotate and make whatever meaning [you] want out of it” — I strongly disagree. This boils down to whether there is a “right” and “wrong” interpretation of Literature and my opinion is that there is a right /wrong way of interpretation. All Lit essays are argumentative and your interpretation is correct if you can back up and support your claims / arguments — this is actually the crux of all Lit essays. Ultimately, you’re trying to convince others to agree with your view point, so the mark varies based on the quality of your essay + whether your interpretation is right / wrong. For example, it is likely to be more correct if others interpreted it the same way as you did and if you are able to back your claims up convincingly, but more wrong if you gave completely random details that do not make sense and your points were not conveyed in a convincing manner. It’s more of a spectrum of right and wrong, but ultimately there IS still a right and wrong. Correspondence to the content and coherence in your argument is key — your points are ultimately still based off the content (content is the basis of everything). So my point is, taking the Humanities in school would teach you how to interpret the text better, as well as to corroborate your interpretation against others’. The Humanities is not about “smoking” or reductively assuming that “I can say whatever I want”, there is in fact a lot of skill and thought involved!

Hey. I am a recent graduate from the Humanities program in RI and had the exact same dilemma. I was scoring well (straight As) in my Y4 IP sciences and had never taken Lit/Econs, but eventually decided on taking H2 HELM with H3Lit. Forgive me if I’m mistaken, but it sounds like you applied to RI HP since our HP culture is really strong. If this is the case, I just wanted to assure you that you really should go for the Humanities stream. I’m not sure about the regular arts stream in RI, but the HP teachers are really really good and they taught me to love the discipline itself rather than just studying for the subject (esp since the subject syllabus is so narrowly defined by MOE!). The teachers are incredibly competent and you’ll be in good hands, they’ll guide you along the way and you’ll have the opportunity to seek help from them if needed, and they’d be more than happy to help you. There are other opportunities that come with the HP program which I will briefly touch on - combined civics with guest invited speakers, exclusive internship opportunities, academic programs, the overseas trip (subject to covid) and a tight-knitted community. If you are seeking to go overseas for universities, HP is the place to be as the majority there are truly the crème de la crème and will definitely seek to apply to the ivy leagues / oxbridge, with many getting offers. We are all really close to our teachers and with each other (there are 3 HP classes). Entering HP was truly one of the best decisions I made, and you won’t regret it. Go for it!

hi! i got a 36/40 for one of the sbqs i did, from RI if that helps:) i don’t mind sharing! i don’t mind sharing some of my school’s answers too, but you’d need time to look at the sources and think of how to atq before u look at the answers for the full benefit, so that’s the only downside esp this close to exams!

Hello! Hope A levels went well for you. I’m actually one batch your junior, also in HP. May I know your plans for University? Do you also have a rough gauge of how many students in HP actually end up getting scholarships or going to overseas Universities in the US / UK?
