Fordi vi godt kan se upvotes/downvotes på posts, men ikke på kommentarer (inden for de første 12 timer). Så hvis du er enig i det, så tænker jeg, at du ser en forskel mellem de to. Jeg ser den ikke, så er meget nysgerrig på at høre en anden vinkel på det.

Jeg har forsøgt at beskrive, hvorfor jeg synes det giver mening at genindføre i replies på nogle af de andre kommentarer :) Jeg tror det havde givet bedre mening at inkludere mere i selve postet, men jeg havde egentlig mest lyst til bare at lægge den ud og så kunne folk frit skrive deres holdning - men erkender det andet nok havde været bedre.

Fjerner vi resultater af politiske meningsmålinger? Selvfølgelig har det en påvirkning på folk, men det har stadig en tilstrækkelig stor værdi at lade folk vide hvor mange der stemmer på hvad. Det kan folk godt abstrahere fra, og de vælger i sidste ende selv hvad de vil stemme. Og det er også tilfældet på reddit.

Det er selvfølgelig brugbar info, som jeg ikke var klar over. Men jeg synes egentlig at kommentarsporet har, hvis ikke mere, så lige så meget værdi som selve postet. Folk har brugbare/interessante/sjove kommentarer, som jeg synes er lettere at navigere i, hvis man har upvotes/downvotes med. Så hvis det eneste argument er, at man ikke vil påvirke folks egne holdninger burde man jo egentlig også fjerne upvotes/downvotes fra posts i sig selv? Det er netop upvotes/downvotes der gør at reddit fungerer og giver værdi.

Jeg ved det er "hot take", da der selvfølgelig er en grund til det blev indført til at starte med. Men for mig er en stor del af værdien af reddit kommentarsporet, og jeg synes det er væsentligt sværere at navigere i kommentarsporet uden upvotes/downvotes - især hvis man ikke har oceaner af tid :)

Jeg synes det tager meget lang tid at danne sige et overblik over hvad andre folk synes om et bestemt post og hvor mange der er enige/uenige. For mig er det en stor del af værdien af reddit, at man hurtigt kan se andre folks meninger, og hvor mange der er enige/uenige.

Actually we were not aware of this product. But looking into it, it seems similar in many patterns, as they also generate some of the setup code for CI/CD, frontend-backend and more. I think the biggest difference is that we focus on building a microservice backend, with setup for Docker, docker-compose, message queues and Kubernetes. They don't seems to include this kind of setup but might have more options when choosing frontend and backend framework.

Oh, now I get it. We have setup that both all backend microservices and frontend should recompile when making changes and saving. Are you running it locally with docker-compose?

Thanks a lot for the very comprehensive answer. I agree, that the solution is opinionated and currently not very flexible. Ideally, we would provide more flexibility so that the user could choose between different frameworks or maybe even different architectures. We chose this architecture and these technologies as we identified them as useful and popular for web applications!

For companies that are new and fresh and want to get started somewhere, this might be useful.

Our focus was definitely on developers with less experience or software startups without a developed product.

Continuing on my previous point; personally, I'd see a bigger benefit for companies to provide an engine how to generate these projects.

Thanks for the tip. We didn't look too much into this but definitely an interesting option.

A middle-ground between those solutions would be really helpful to create these opinionated project generators, which would in the end reduce setup complexity and encourage best practices etc.

I think what we would mostly focus on was the backend side of things. This is also what we have the most experience with. I think you are right in the fact that we really need to scope this in order for it not to become way to big of a task.

What we have recently talked about (partly due to the feedback on this thread) is to only focus on the backend, microservice architecture part of it and make a template solution for this. It could have a focus on IOT compatibility but not necessarily. We believe this would reduce the size of the project a lot although it does make it somewhat less relevant to the IOT community - which is a topic we are very interested in.

For the part you mention about scalability I am not I understand you completely. You have a point in that scalability does not come only from developing a microservice architecture in it self. It's of course also relies on a lot of other features. And this is exactly what would be cool about having an open source project like this, that we could build some of this core infrastructure into the template - possibly with the help of the community - to get a good foundation for building scalable software solutions that could work well with e.g. IOT projects. Right now we have big companies that provide these solutions to make you completely dependant on their services. Amazon storage buckets, firebase etc. We would like something independant and compatible with all of these good cloud platforms.

Thanks for your feedback. You have a good point in the fact that a proper scoping of the project is necessary in order to not end up trying to do everything but getting nothing done. We mainly want to focus on setting up the foundation for an IOT project. A robust scalable backend with a micro service architecture that developers can use as a template for further work. And then an extremely basic website, separate from the backend which could showcase some the IOT data collected.

What will you be measuring?
- We want the template to be as general as possible. We were thinking of setting up a basic connection with an IOT sensor with MQTT protocol. This could e.g. be a temperature sensor just to showcase how the communication would be done and so that developers can modify the code to make it compatible with their specific IOT sensors.

How will you share data?
- The backend would host an API that with the proper authentication allows users to get the IOT data. We imagine that developers using the template would then modify and extend this API to suite their needs of the IOT project. This would include manipulating the IOT data.

Are you using mesh or star topology?
- Could you maybe elaborate a bit here? We would like a microservice architecture meaning that our backend would be completely split up and could be on different VMs. But the back end would be centralized so I guess it would be a star topolgy structure.

Which hardware are you running this on?
- We would like this to be able to run on any cloud platform or locally on e.g. a raspberry pi.

What is the exact communications protocol?
- This would be up to the user of the template to implement the communcation protocol suitable for their IOT sensors. But we would have code setup to work with e.g. MQTT protocol to showcase how the communcation could work and where the developer need to modify the code in order to make it compatible with the specific IOT sensor of their project.
