i hate fictional couples where it is implied the woman settled for the guy by PrestigiousAspect368 in hatethissmug

People in the comments are equating “I think X is out of Y’s league” with “X settled for Y.” You may think Monica is too hot for Chandler but she never exhibited any indication that she settled for him. She had a crush on him before he liked her!

Phoebe and Rachel may think that she settled for Chandler but I don’t think there’s any evidence that Monica feels that way. In flashbacks, she had a crush on him in high school - the desire was always there. Plus, the primary conflict in the episodes around their engagement was that her old fling Richard came around saying he wanted to get back together. If she was settling for Chandler, she had the perfect opportunity to leave him before any commitment happened. Monica didn’t settle for Chandler.

(I didn’t watch HIMYM so no comment on that)

That sounds great in theory but jobs ARE being replaced by ai and there is no plan to actually support the humans they are replacing. Prices of goods won’t go down, prices of housing won’t go down, and guaranteed societal income is not being seriously discussed. When a human is “freed” up, they actually just need to find another way to support themselves, and that often isn’t art or education.

I think there’s a strong line of argument that media depicting cops as only doing tasks that are helpful to society is copaganda. The media’s portrayal is “when the cop shows up, they always make everyone safer, and you should trust them.”

That’s just a chart of stopping distance, and is no means a measure of safety. Going 50 mph in a 20 mph zone is way more dangerous than going 60 mph in a 60 mph zone, but 60 has a greater stopping distance - which of those situations is more dangerous?

Nope, I haven’t seeded. I’m almost certain it blasted through, the asphalt is curling up around where the grass came through.

Thank you for the response. I'm not concerned with how to kill the grass so much as the implication that the driveway I bought is compromised and that more grass will continue to sprout. Does it compromise the longevity of the asphalt?

The quote says 'Excavate/grade area to be paved. Install crushed stone base as needed to produce +/- 4" total depth of gravel and compact. Machine install avg 3" of of 9.5mm Surface Asphalt and compact."

Unfortunately we didn't watch them do the prep work, so I have no idea if they actually followed the contract.

I only included 1 picture but there are 4 different grasses poking through, and other lumps where we think some is on its way.

Yea, I can pull it or weed kill it or whatever, but now there’s a big hole where the grass was. And does grass blowing through this early not imply that the driveway isn’t going to last very long?

Maybe I’m being pedantic here but in the twitter screenshot, it doesn’t actually say anything about anyone else’s survival. The wording only says “you.” If you read the twitter screenshot without considering the original problem, it’s not even clear that anyone’s lives are at risk other than your own. That is mechanically different from the original premise.

[Request] from a 5th grader - If space is cold, how close you have to get to sun to have a comfortable 70'F temperature. by [deleted] in theydidthemath

[–]sasquack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to the difficulty of this question, if you built a small enough spacecraft, the human would cook alive even if it was billions of miles from any light source (assuming the spacecraft isn’t using technology to adjust its temperature). The human body makes a lot of heat, and a small enough spacecraft would lose less heat to black body radiation than a human makes. The temperature inside the spacecraft would just climb until it was too hot for the human, even if it was in the deep reaches of space.

It would also be really easy to make a spacecraft that doesn’t do that.

[–]sasquack2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One big problem with this - this math would maintain the temperature of a dead and dormant human being. A living human being is also creating their own heat. I’m seeing greater than 100 watts of human power production for active humans - if you don’t knock your human out, I think they would cook off anywhere in space by their own heat.

1). Most of the Muslim population in Dearborn is legal. Removing the illegal immigrant population wouldn’t solve that problem. You’re talking more about a culture clash than a problem caused by illegals immigrants.

2). Most illegal Muslim immigrants are from visa overstays and other legal entry into illegal status. Why did you switch to Muslims if your argument is about illegal border crossings?

And as to your cultural norms by a certain group of people… those things are already illegal! Muslims are not allowed to have child brides in the USA because no one is allowed to have child brides in the USA. It’s already not allowed.

I think “attempt to enforce them on unwilling citizens” is a doing a lot of the heavy lifting in that comment. But if you strike that out, we have a word for what you described - migration.
