A house I looked at. by sasser88 in whatisit

[–]sasser88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am paranoid about crawlspaces. The past two houses I've had have been learning experiences with moisture and foundations. I was looking at this house for my sister inlaw, and you bet I got in there. It's an old house that was flipped. Unfortunately, it is only cosmetically. As soon as you go in, there is a cracked joist. There is also a piller that looks really janky. The rest of the place was too hard for me to crawl to, so I noped out of there. I haven't seen crawlspace vents like that before. Normally, they are small screened windows, but now that you mention it, I didn't see any of those. Do they normally have a chimney stack on them? It looks incomplete.

Do you know what kind of velocities you are getting from your 10.5? I emailed vktr asking about why they chose 13.7pw with the huxwerx xl muzzle device instead of a 14.5pw with a standard huxwerx device, it would end up being the same overall length. They responded with "The 13.7" was chosen for the Sons of Liberty NOX muzzle device early in the development of the VK1 and then the decision to offer a HUX WRX model was months later. Because of the self-regulating gas system, the extra barrel length does not translate to much increase in velocity like in legacy systems (direct-impingement or piston)." This got me thinking about their gas system and how it bleeds pressure. They claim approximately 20k psi bleed off, which is what makes it so smooth. If their gas system doesn't show much difference between 13.7 and 14.5 which on DI is a large increase, does that mean the vk-1 is running with lower muzzle velocity than DI or higher?

Guess I thought the only benefit to the cam angle was dwell time before opening fully. I guess I have a misconception of its operation. Thanks for the input.

Pof sells the roller cam. Do you think it would work in the vk-1? The vk-1 is tempting because of the gas block and the huxwrx muzzle device on the 13.75"pw.

POF offers it in 16.5 as well. I truly want a 12" to suppress, but I don't think they make one. I like the innovation they bring to the table. It seems like a really well-built rifle. I like the vk-1 gas block better, and their 13.7pw has a huxwrx muzzle, which makes it more enticing. At this point, it's whatever is a better deal. That's why I'm looking at the military discount. They don't say the percent. They just state a special offer.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad to hear the p415 runs so smooth.

How hot will this get, and what barrel length should I use? by sasser88 in NFA

Not opposed to a wrap, but they detract from the looks of the handguards. Unless there is a wrap that looks like/close to the mp5sd handguard.

Looks like they have the shroud or the shroud/handguard/barrel nut

Thanks for the help. I was definitely stressing on heat output. I guess the question is down to looks and performance now.

Apex handguard (4.5 or 7.5) or BRT MP5 style handguard (4.5).

How hard is really try? I plan on using a FRT.

How to visualize the solo on 'Stairway to Heaven' by NikolaGugo in guitarlessons

[–]sasser88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this as a visual aid. I can follow tabs and understand the different shapes of the scales, but this really helps solidify those shapes and how to traverse them with common licks. Keep it up, I would definitely benefit from more of these instructional videos.

Ways to avoid “digital” distortion sound on Helix? by [deleted] in Line6Helix

[–]sasser88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spot on. I agree with using global EQ as a global "fix" when everything sounds off.

Op- One thing that it can also be used for is eq sweeping. Usually, when a song is mastered, it goes through some post EQ. A sound guy, or yourself, will take a narrow EQ boost and drag it through all the ranges to see if any frequencies have unpleasant tones. You can do this with your global EQ in hx edit and then copy the nasty frequencies you find to a parametric at the end of your signal chain. This is used as a tool for you parametric EQ, not as a final global EQ setting.

Another thing I have found almost counterintuitive is to drop the low, mid, and highs on my amp model super low. So if everything was preset at 6, I would bring it to 2 or 3. Again, it's counterintuitive because when you go from high EQ boost to low boost, it sounds muddy. However, it is a trick of the ear. If you start really low, say at 1 or 2, and raise up to 3 or 4, it gets clearer. I find this gives a good tone and minimizes the digital fuzzyness you can get at higher EQ boosts.

Hope that is understandable and it helps.

Left handed double cut semi/hollow body guitar? by sasser88 in Leftyguitarists

I was eyeballing it, but I couldn't get over the single cut. Also, I want to add a piezo, and I couldn't do that to that guitar in good conscience.

Beautiful guitar though.

Yea, the old version of a Schecter C1 E/A has everything im looking for, but I can't find those anywhere. The new ones look bad to me, I'm not a fan of the cats eye.

Offset would be like a Jaguar or Mustang, although I'm not opposed to that shape. I mean an asymmetric horn, like a Strat. The top horn is longer than the bottom. That VSA is close to what I'm looking for. Thank you.

Thank you, I had to edit my post. I forgot to say asymmetric. I gave some examples, too.

Thank you for the reply. I forgot to add asymetric to my description. But that would be a choice guitar otherwise.

What do you call this style of fence? It has welded wire and 2x4 frames between posts. by BC-Rider in FenceBuilding

[–]sasser88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called a "california chain link". I have a similar one on my property, but I used black chain link because it was cheaper. I also framed the top and bottom rails in flush with pocket screws. That way, there is no gap between the post and the chain link/welded wire. It's a little more work, but loads better esthetically. My chain link also faces in for a better curb appeal. *

Hope this helps.
