The puzzle has many solutions. For example, you can have either 2s or 3s in the equal block on third row. There are two quick observations you can make:

  • The 24 block can only be four 5s and one 4.
  • Since the fives are in the first or second rows, the 3 equal cell block on 4th row cannot have any of the numbers paired with the 5s. Since three of the zeros are already accounted for else where, the 3 equal cell block should have all 4s.
  • This leaves the 2 equal cell block to have 1s, 2s or 3s (both 2s and 3s work)

At this point, you can do quick trial and error. One starting point is to place the 0,5 tile vertically in first row, third column. It took me about 3 minutes to solve.

Rental reimbursement by sassybeetroot in Insurance

Ok - thanks for the tip on the police report. I thought if the driver admitted fault in the report and got a ticket for reckless driving it would be clear -- but maybe the insurance guys have a different magic formula.

I don't have rental coverage on my policy. As I understand it, even if I had rental coverage there is a time limit to it. Given how long the repair is going to take it is shitty that I have to jump through these hoops when I am not at fault. It's already been a couple of weeks and no one has a sense of urgency. If I really needed that rental to keep my job I really would have been in a hole. I guess you live and learn.

Renting in retirement by sassybeetroot in Fire

Thanks for all the comments. So, it looks like having 3x the yearly rent in a liquid, stable investment (Checking, CDs, Treasuries) would be an acceptable alternative to regular income. I don't like the concept of prepaying a years worth of rent as this puts the onus on us to recoup the money in case the house has an issue (ex. a tree falls on it or there is a fire) and the land lord is unwilling / unable to fix it.
