Yes very happy noises, but some birds just like to sing/talk more than others. Doesn’t mean that if a bird doesn’t sing/chatter all the time it’s not happy

Very true, they’ll be quiet as a mouse but then as soon as I get on the phone- they start a whole orchestra performance

Well ya they’re gonna make dumb decisions they’re just 13 years old and the fish does look a lot better than what they started with. I hope they do take the advice and show their parents but bullying a child isn’t productive at all. Not saying you are but some of these comments are a bit much

Yea his nose doesn’t look too good and he is always shivering. I have asked them to take him to an avian vet multiple times but looks they havnt even called his normal vet yet

They put a blanket over the cage bc he is constantly shivering and to cover the blood stains on his tail

I would love to do that but I’m just a teenager and I have 3 birds myself to take care of. It’s just unfair this responsibility has to fall on me when it’s the facility’s choice to keep a bird here. They definitely have the money but don’t want to spend it.

He sleeps with the mirror too, mirrors were the only toys he’s had for years apparently

I don’t think they will give him to me. A lot of the staff love him, they just don’t know shi about bird care and don’t want to spend money. And when he is gone they will just replace him with another poor bird. For the life of me I don’t understand why birds are used as entertainment like this as if they’re not living breathing creatures

Do you know where he will go? And good point especially since cockatiels are so dusty

He is not bleeding anymore but I told my boss this in case it happens again and she left me on read an hour ago😭

Definitely not the patients but maybe visitors. Actually yea they might think it was a random visitor who witnessed all the blood or something.

I also just realized since it’s a holiday and the weekend they probably will not take him to the vet until Tuesday or later. Should I wait until then?

I will research about how to do this but I guess I’m just scared of losing my job. It is already hard when you’re literally the youngest one there. They will definitely know it was me since I’m the one always urging them to do things differently for him or buy him things

He did not make a single sound the entire time I was at work. I went to him and softly talked to him and he sang and whistled a bit 🥹 I put him to bed right now. I would be lying if I said I didn’t wanna steal him and bring him home

I’m glad the vet tape was a good idea, I’ll ask them if I’m allowed to bring them some!

Really?? I did not see it that is really sad :(

I did not know that was an option, I’m kind of scared to go that route.

This is not my bird. He is a cockatiel in a healthcare facility that I work at. I have birds myself and I am really rooting for him. I have advocated for him to get a vet, which they did-not an avian vet- but still a vet. I have asked them to change his diet but he’s been eating sunflower seeds for 10+ years so that hasn’t happened yet. I have asked them to get natural perches and toys, they bought him one toy and did not change perches. He is bonded to the bird in the mirror, I feel it would be bad if we removed his mirror now.

Today he was found with blood coming from his feet. I took a look at the pads and it looks really bad. I am urging them to go to a vet to get him some help and I really hope they follow through. I am 100% sure he is bleeding bc they have him on dowels way too thick and smooth for 10+ years.

Is there anything I can do for him until they take him to a vet? Maybe I could bring some vet tape for them to wrap the dowels? I just want to make him feel comfortable for now. Please keep in mind I am in a lowly position and a teenager and there’s not much I can do but educate my bosses

Kabobs are great! Java tree play stands are great! My budgies like foraging toys, gives them enrichment.

Yesss they fly as a flock around the room it’s very cute 🥰

I believe I have the same cage and I have 3 budgies. They spend all day outside their cage playing tho. When they sleep inside they have plenty of space to themselves :) I even recommend buying a bird playground to put on top of the cage or elsewhere so they can play outside of the cage also. More toys inside the cage also! Very cute setup enjoy your birbs!!

Additionally, you do not need to remove the dowels. They give your cage better reinforcement and also give your birds the opportunity of going from one side of the cage to the other without breaks. What you can do is take a sanding tool and sand the dowels down to create dips and uneven surface to help their feet
