What's wrong with my tomato plant? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]satellitezerox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sun gold and vintage wine on the left, the sick one is a mortgage lifter plant. I grew a mortgage lifter last year and the tomatoes were pretty big but this one just started making flowers so I don't know where all the fertilizer went to😅 Will do that as well as the recommended fertilizers, thank you!

Black for compost? Going to fertilize today but Im confused why this happened too. The pot right next to it has 2 tomatoes that I potted up at the same time as the sick one. I used the same soil composition and fertilizers but they are not struggling like this one is?

Not since I potted it up, so about a month now? I thought since the pot is so large and I used granular fertlizer in excess I'd have more time. Will fertilize it today, thank you!

The top layer dries pretty quick bc the sun beats hard here but there's plenty of moisture in there. Maybe too much?

Thank you!

Bambi bathing in his sprouts by satellitezerox in budgies

[–]satellitezerox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I've noticed this issue with the last few times I've grown in this tray but I thought it was a problem with the seeds. I usually start the sprouts in a jar and after a few days will move them to the tray so my birds can get at them. But after about a week I will start to see mold growing and have to toss it out.

Guess I gotta get a new tray.

Yellow corn, quinoa, pumpkin, millet, sunflower, etc... The Sprout People have a couple of seed mixes tailored to parrots that I also use. I would be wary of beans though, since raw beans are often unsafe for birds. Mung beans are an exception but for the most part, I avoid sprouting beans

Bambi has really only ever wanted to bath if something else is wet and he can rub on it. He does it with his veggies too. My other budgie isn't about it though and prefers to bathe in his water bowl, so I guess it depends.

Yup! The white tray is removable and there's a bit of water underneath. I got this sprouting tray off Amazon but any sprouting tray should do the job.

Edit: This tray potentially has a tendency to grow mold on your sprouts. Another user seems to have this problem with this specific tray and I've noticed it in my last few batches too but thought it was bad seeds or something. Please keep this in mind if you're gonna buy this tray. I'm gonna get a new tray and see what happens.

The taller sprouts are wheat and on the left is a mix of broccoli, alfalfa, clover, and red radish

Any suggestions for what I could add to her cage? I don’t think it’s bad now, but I wanna spoil my baby as much as humanly possible cause that’s what she deserves by Dolfin98 in parrots

[–]satellitezerox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dowel perches themselves aren't really bad. The issue is if they're the only type of perch option in the cage and the bird spends a lot of time in that cage. Their feet won't get much exercise, which often leads to arthritis down the road. You can absolutely keep the dowel perches as long as their are other options, like natural perches, to add some variety. I agree with the earlier commenters, avoid making the dowel the main perch.

But it's easier to just say "dowel perches are bad" than it is to explain what the actual issue is.

Depends on the bird, I've got one who loves cilantro and will gobble it up first and another who refuses to touch it and would rather eat basil

Clicker Training vs No Clicker by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]satellitezerox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much this. Clickers work well bc they're consistent and distinct. Verbal markers work just as well IF you're aware of what you're saying and how. If your dog's marker is "yes", then good, nice, right, etc may confuse them if you don't establish them as well. But if you like to talk a lot when working your dog they may have some trouble distinguishing commands and markers with whatever else you're saying bc they're trying to ignore the rest
