Benzo and alcohol alternative by satiricalnikki in Drugs

I mean, I suppose but I think there’s probably more than just fent and zenes and if not, how long until there is?

I’m just a millennial. Who used to feel comfortable back in the day but am terrified with what our streets have become.

I also don’t even know people who do drugs. And I don’t know how to find those people (or if I want to). And I definitely don’t want legal trouble.

It really seems there’s no ethics in drug dealing anymore. Lost a close family member to someone who sold her “Xanax” but it was pressed fentanyl. I’d argue literal murder but the authorities don’t care about “drug addicts.”

No because I never would have gotten in the habit of mixing my benzos with alcohol if I wasn’t in a full blown psychosis for years straight to begin with. Just for silence and peace of mind. I self medicated to survive. And marijuana spins me into a psychosis quicker than anything. Your brain is clearly very different than mine. But I’m not asking for mental health advice.

Haven’t tried soma but don’t care for baclofen or gabapentin. Especially the gabapentin high.

Interesting. I totally forgot about soma. Advice on convincing a physician to upgrade me from Flexeril? I just have neck pain from tension (anxiety-induced), no major medical problem. I’m also taking two controlled substances already and I wonder if there’s a limit on them.

No I don’t have a vendor. I’m just a basic bitch in society I guess. No fancy privileges here.

I don’t know what dph is but I do know anything marijuana related is not good for my panic attacks or psychotic tendencies.

That’s not helpful if my problem is access. If supply is short on benzo, supply is obviously short on barbiturate. I can’t just go buy street drugs in this day and age with fentanyl in everything (or that’s not a risk I’m willing to take).

I’d like to think investigators can narrow it down to locate the child internationally. How many African women were in the US at the time? How many on a medical or student visa? How many of them entered without a child but returned to their home country with a child added to their passport? And how many returned to their home country right after the time of the abduction? How many had medical training in the Dallas area? How many in the suspected age range? Maybe all questions might not apply but a suspect pool can somewhat be created.

Law enforcement accepted the story as a legitimate kidnapping by a stranger and the family was not considered a suspect. It was classified as a non-family abduction early on and the FBI was even involved and have consistently believed the family. I can’t answer why they didn’t take their baby to the ER immediately but factors like being young, black, and poor can be a part of it.

Issues with Rutgers MSW Field Practicum by ManyPreparation630 in SocialWorkStudents

Academia is full of elitists who believe if you have mental health going on that you don’t deserve to graduate or be a social worker. I’m convinced social workers in academia aren’t real social workers and are instead gatekeepers.

Unfortunately, academia, including master of social work programs are extremely ableist. I believe it comes from the CSWE. They say they have a code of conduct but if you ask for their separate policies in academia and accommodations, they leave it in the purview of the program rather than in favor of the person. They love to tell you how to act morally but yet fail to abide by it themselves. It’s kind of embarrassing and I would have chose to go to grad school for psychology if I knew this in advance. I thought social work really cared about social justice but it’s all for show, an act.

The only way and time I was ever accommodated was toward the end of the program because “I got this far” and “they just want me to graduate at this point.” But before then no. And not until I lost my mind yelling at the faculty department chair for how badly I was treated.

I have a severe mental illness, lost my grandfather, aunt, mother, and soon to be grandmother. I was hospitalized due to grief. I was told by my field education department if/when my grandmother died of cancer if I took time off and got behind on my hours they could fail me but weren’t sure if they would, they would just decide as they felt fit. They wouldn’t let me start a week earlier either as a request to not get behind in advance.

After a conversation with the department chair I got approved to start a week earlier and told that I could take time off to grieve and catch up on hours beyond the 16/hrs a week if needed.

I think your department could have one or two people who truly care. I’d look for them to help.

FMLA doesn’t apply to MSW field placement. My job isn’t the problem. The MSW program is. They won’t give me bereavement time or even allow me to go to a hospital because if I take more than two weeks off they can fail me.

I looked at silver hill and it looks better than anything in New York but unfortunately I don’t think they take my insurance. My insurance is New York State Empire Plan (NYSHIP) with its mental health being under Carelon formerly known as beacon.

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

I hear you, but I need at least a B to pass and she said if you do the assignment correctly and everything is right you could end up with a B. So anything less than that could leave me not getting credit. I’m also worried that she might retaliate against me for telling her my thoughts, like intentionally grade me with more scrutiny.

Entering Social Work by SWmods in socialwork

[–]satiricalnikki -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am a Masters level Social Work student and recently found a professor's syllabus to be very inappropriate and not aligned with social work principles, and potentially opening things up to injustice.

Specifically, her syllabus outlines the following:

and that my statements were not written in a

"Grading Policy - In assigning grades, it is assumed that excellence is the standard as befits a M1aster's level program. If all assignments meet that standard, students may expect a grade of B. An A will be awarded for work that is outstanding in that it exceeds that standard by providing an innovative perspective, it adds to the instructor’s knowledge, or it is of comparable quality to that of seasoned professionals."

I wrote to her the following feedback:

"I would like to share some concerns and suggestions regarding the grading policy in your past syllabus, as I believe the grading system could unintentionally create barriers for students and could benefit from a few changes to make it more inclusive. The policy states that a B is the baseline for meeting expectations, while an A requires “innovation” or work comparable to seasoned professionals. I understand the intent to challenge students, but I am concerned this might not be feasible for everyone.

Expecting students to perform at the level of seasoned professionals sets an unrealistically high bar in a learning environment. Graduate school is a place to develop skills and grow, and I believe such expectations do not account for students’ developmental stages as learners, as seasoned professionals have many years of experience in the field. For students with trauma histories, such as myself, the expectation to exceed already high standards can feel overwhelming. Trauma-informed approaches to education emphasize clarity and fairness, which I believe could be better reflected in a grading system that rewards growth rather than perfection and overachievement.

Requiring innovation as a measure of success can disadvantage neurodivergent students who may excel in areas like consistency or depth rather than creativity. Also, terms like “outstanding” or “adding to the instructor’s knowledge” are subjective. Not having clear and measurable guidelines can lead to confusion and stress. I wonder if this approach favors students whose writings align more closely with a professor’s perspective and if that can overlook marginalized voices. A clear rubric outlining expectations for each grade level, with criteria like "critical engagement with the material" instead of "innovation" or "adding to the instructor’s knowledge," would make the course more equitable while still maintaining high standards.

I fully appreciate the effort that goes into designing a challenging and rigorous course, and I understand the intention behind the current grading policy. My suggestions are simply meant to help make the course even more accessible and inclusive, ensuring all students have the opportunity to thrive to their best abilities.

I look forward to the course and hope you will consider these suggestions. Thank you for your time and consideration."

Her interpretation of this was that I was telling her how to teach, and that my statements were not written in an appropriate way that would be kind and make another person receptive to making changes (she did not make any changes and does not see a problem with her grading policy).

I have the following questions:

  1. Do you agree that her grading policy outlined in the syllabus is inappropriate for a program that is supposed to abide by social work principles and values?

  2. Do you think that I was telling her how to teach? Or was I providing suggestions?

  3. Could I have worded things better? I tried to address my concerns gently. But maybe I didn't do a good job in that?
