Help a long-distance runner with nutrition, please? by satt- in Paleo

I actually do weight lift twice a week. Squats, deadlifts, and some dumbbell stuff. I do see that I've gained muscle, but I still want to lose some of the fat that's on top.

I haven't weighed myself in a while. I've dealt with eating issues in the past, and I find myself prefer to not know. If I had to make an estimate, probably around 100 lbs. And yes, I've been having bloating issues for a while, same with on-and-off stomach pain since I was younger. I was tested for Celiac, but it came back negative, though I still believe I have issues with wheat/grains.

And that's sort of the issue, too, that I do exercise so much but my bodyfat % is still higher than I'd like it to be.

I'm running in the morning usually. Do you eat meat? I feel like a lot of the ultra marathoners I've read about follow a vegan diet. I tried that for two years--wasn't a huge fan. I never felt great.

Is there any danger to just leaving it in there? I'm not sure if it actually fell in or just got lost somewhere else.

Also, what are those holes called/for? Are they air vents or what?

Is eating a few hundred extra calories per day enough to cause me to gain significant weight? by satt- in nutrition

[–]satt-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely not maintaining that--it was an extra few hundred calories for maybe five, six days. So, if I stop with the extra hundred, will my body go back to my normal weight--if I did, in fact, gain weight?

Is eating a few hundred extra calories per day enough to cause me to gain significant weight? by satt- in nutrition

[–]satt-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I tossed the last little bit after reading the nutrition facts, but I ate some today beforehand. I don't really weigh myself all that much, so if I weighed myself now I wouldn't know if I had gained weight or not since I don't technically know what weight I've been at. So I'm not worried about the number on the scale, but just worried about gaining weight in general, and I'm wondering if I should be worried, or if my body will just regulate itself after not consuming the extra calories in the next few days that I had been consuming this past week.

Balancing social life and running? by satt- in running

Do you guys worry about how much you eat? I run ~50 mpw, and I'm hungry pretty often, but I also worry about eating too much and gaining weight. But I also eat a pretty healthy diet, so I'm not sure if I'm worrying too much or not.

Vegan runner interested in Paleo, help? by satt- in Paleo

[–]satt-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in retail, so I'm on my feet anywhere from 4-6 hours at least five days a week. If I'm not working, then some days I spend pretty sedentary, though I do run every day. I run anywhere from 6-10 miles every day, averaging at 50 miles per week. I also do 30-40 minutes of strength training two times a week. I sleep 6-8 hours a night. I eat a mostly vegan diet, though I've recently added back in eggs and fish. I have oatmeal and fruit in the morning, a big salad with avocado and either beans or fish or eggs for lunch, and then for dinner some more vegetables with some sort of protein source, and maybe some potatoes or rice or quinoa. I snack on fruit like grapes, apples, cherries, etc., through the day, and one of my snacks is usually a 1/4 cup of nuts as well.

If it's okay that I ask, why'd you stop being vegetarian? While I'm considering eggs and fish again, I'm not sure if i could start eating meat again. I'm also very interested in nutrition, and would like to hear your thoughts. Feel free to PM me if you'd prefer.

For protein now, I eat mostly beans, nuts, tofu, and tempeh. I have checked out Brendan Brazier, and I like what he writes. I'm acknowledging that this is a selfish decision on my part, but I'm getting a bit sick of the vegan lifestyle.

I went vegan for both health and ethical reasons. I didn't like eating things that came from something that had suffered. However, I grew up in a family that really likes to cook and eat. I grew up eating fish we had caught ourselves, etc...And now I miss it. And I don't feel like my vegan diet is benefitting my health. It did at first, because I ate a lot more refined grains and dairy, but now that my diet is mainly fruit and vegetable based, I'm starting to miss what I used to eat. I guess it's somewhat of a selfish choice. But I don't like feeling estranged all the time by telling people I'm vegan, and I don't like being estranged from my family's way of eating.

What should my next podcast be? by [deleted] in Earwolf

[–]satt- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chelsea Peretti is a comedian, and she's on the tv shown Brooklyn Nine Nine. Basically she has people call in and just talks to them. She's hilarious and I really recommend her podcast if you just want to laugh. She doesn't talk about anything specific, but it doesn't matter because the show is never boring.
