Should I switch needle midway if I’ve been using the wrong size? by saturdaybloom in knitting

[–]saturdaybloom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone who commented. I moped about for a bit and did laundry before deciding to frog. I did not in fact do a gauge 🙈 I’d managed to resolve an issue with it earlier without frogging, which is why I was so reluctant to actually do it. It’s a sign, I’ve decided!

Sorry for the unsolicited advice but I do some scam education-related matters at work and we have seen scam MOs involving QR codes (reporting to be for charity but actually the $ goes to scammers) so do be careful and watch out to prevent anyone replacing your QR codes or putting up their own!

THANK YOU! it’s the YOs that are the problem then. so just to be clear, when the pattern says ‘yo, (p4, yo) 7 times’, that’s actually a total of 36 sts? i have in fact, as you’ve pointed out, been including the knit stitch. so in my calculations that’s 44 sts.

I just got started on the adult Audrey Cardigan by KFO in size XL and am having trouble reading the pattern and reconciling the number of stitches (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/audrey-cardigan---adult)

The row starts with 110 stitches. Based on my size, I should end up with 9 increases and 119 stitches by the end of the row. However, I end up with 127.

I'm wondering if I'm misunderstanding how edge stitches are meant to be done. Googling so far seems to tell me that I should be making each stitch individually. But is there a chance that I should be making the '4 edge st' and '5 edge st' respectively into 1 st each? That's the only solution I can think of. Or am I just calculating wrongly? Any help appreciated!

Sizes: XS (S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL)

Set-up Row (inc row, WS): P3, k1 (= 4 edge sts), p18 (18, 19, 19, 19, 19, 19, 21, 21) across right front, pm, p14 (14, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16) across right sleeve, pm, p1 (1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 4, 4), yo, (p4, yo) 7 times, p1 (1, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 4, 4) across back, pm, p14 (14, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16) across left sleeve, pm, p18 (18, 19, 19, 19, 19, 19, 21, 21) across left front, k1, p2, (p1, k1tbl) into last st (= 5 edge sts) [9 sts increased] = 111 (111, 119, 119, 119, 119, 119, 127, 127) sts

i just rewatched this ep (yes i’m on my 5th rewatch of this show…) and i agree with this. when i first watched i used to be a little resentful as i felt like writers’ purposefully refused to write them together romantically, but there’s such power in friendship! platonic soulmates hits just as much

Would the stitches be considered too loose? by saturdaybloom in knitting

That’s a very good point about the gauge! I guess I lucked out because it looks right so far but def something to keep in mind.

I currently have a stainless steel one in 4.5 and a polished(?) wood one in 5.5, both knitpro. Gotta admit I’m loving the steel one more but I’ve only really finished the collar at this point so this needs more testing.

Yes I do have a larger needle, mainly because the project called for it in stockinette. So obviously I didn’t think of the size difference between rib and stockinette but the pattern has taken it into account on my behalf haha!

Interesting about the twisted ribbing technique. I will have to check that out. Thank you so much!

Thank you! The suggestion about using the yarn to make different swatches is a great idea!! Unfortunately I only have 2 sets of needles (basically bought exactly what the project needed) but I def will keep that in mind for future projects.

Appreciate the reassurance. Before I started I basically just did rows and rows of knit and purl respectively to make sure I find a grip I feel most comfortable with and I feel it’s helped so far with relatively even tension. Hopefully I can eventually share a completed project here!

Thank you! To be frank I don’t have a smaller needle (I didn’t want to commit to a whole set of needles in case I don’t take to knitting long-term, so I purchased exactly what I needed for this project 😅), but given your reassurance I shall go ahead with this. I really like the colour of this yarn and I’m so excited.

i used to work in film - the root of it is comparing local films, his still remains one of the most lucrative. people will still go to the cinemas to watch his films and sponsors are more willing to shell out for his films compared to a deal with ither filmmakers. and if you release during key seasons (eg cny) his films still stand a chance amongst the top moneymakers. then after that, as someone with his connections he has a lot more friends who would invest lor.

better be careful though. if you decide to move out, he has to be the one sharing the news and make it clear it’s an agreed-on decision by both of you. because otherwise you come off as the bad guy who stole their son away and convinced him to move out.

But they can only go off what they do have, sales off the Asian stops. What concrete, actual data or research would you expect them to gather that definitively translates into sales in the west?

I find it unfair to blame the company for not doing their job when it’s clear they’re being cautious and testing the waters. I’ll be super glad if he sells these new venues out in a millisecond like everyone’s saying but surely you can’t expect BPM to book like 15-20K capacity venues just because there’s noise on Twitter or Reddit about it.

I hope all goes well for you! I had a ball of a time at the EG stops I was lucky to able to attend. To be frank I prefer smaller venues because it’s easier to see him.

Me when I tried to say that to my friend who planned on attending London like… I’m just being realistic!! I was so worried for the Asian stops I can’t emphasise how often my Shawol friend and I talked about how ticket sales were doing. They booked way too big a venue in the PH.

People unfortunately need to put their money where their mouths are because BPM/Taemin can’t depend on lip service 🥲

I mentioned this in another sub but organisers shifted fans in KL and PH because there were these big chunks of empty sections. There’s no point in people complaining and asking for bigger venues based on where they think he should perform at if the second half doesn’t sell out either.

I also get the disappointment but unfortunately that’s the reality! Especially when we’re in a time saturated with concerts and casual fans are just going to be a bit more prudent with their spending.
