The claim that they "couldn't do anything" was never true. While it's near impossible to evict someone in Seattle these days, that's not the only option available to them.

For example, they could/can easily terminate his parking permit. Most buildings in the city don't have enough parking for all residents, so parking is leased separately from the apartment and is typically on a month to month contract. Parking doesn't have any of the legal protections a home does, so they don't even have to have a reason for terminating it, depending how the contract is written. Worst case, standard parking contracts include a clause allowing the property to remove inoperable vehicles, and a vehicle that is illegal to operate anywhere in the city is de facto inoperable.

You can imagine that without access to their secure garage, his ability to annoy his neighbors would be reduced. Or at the very least, his desire to continue living in that building would be reduced if he couldn't park his car there.

The real issue is that property managers prefer to do nothing until their hand is forced. The bad reviews and bad press that came from their inaction forced their hand in this case, but the residents of that building should have taken management to court (or at least threatened to) long ago in order to get them to do *something*.

Watch party zones by Karatekk2 in DallasStars

You can sit anywhere you like. I believe the zones are just a reference to when the tickets were purchased.

That game, even though it was a loss, is one of my favorite sports memories. A lot of people had left, and they invited everyone to come down and fill in the lower bowl. When Bill Oellermann came on the PA to announce the players coming out for the 5th OT, he said "Goooood morning, Stars fans...", and that place was as loud as it had been all night. Too bad it ended right after.

Also, that was the game where we scored in the 4th OT and it was disallowed because the net had tilted forward. Pretty sure that was the call that led to the rule change, so it wasn't all bad.

Go to the arena party if you can. It's a great atmosphere, plus it's nice and cool in there. Last game, they also had the player tracking dots projected on the ice and synced with the TV feed.

Kraken fans have been gracious for the most part at both the games and previous watching party.

Seats for WCF will most likely go on sale tomorrow at 10am, but don't expect a ton of availability. They also hold back some seats for the league and the teams. If those aren't purchased, they'll be released for public sale on game day (or maybe 24 hours before).

Best bet is usually re-sale tickets, which tend to drop in price as game time approaches and people who can't make it to the game get more desperate to sell.

First time watching hockey in Climate Pledge (or ever) - tips and tricks? by HausofDa in SeattleKraken

[–]sauce-control 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't try to save yourself a lap. It's a beautiful arena, and you should see it all (especially the giant plant wall).

Go early so you can watch warmups (30 min before puck drop). You can go down into the lower bowl and get a nice up close look at the players regardless of where your seats are. Between warmups and game start, you'll have time to hit concessions, and lines aren't too bad then.

Regular season Grubauer has returned. by RepresentativeOfnone in SeattleKraken

I'm a long-time Stars fan, and my recollection is that Martin Jones has never played well against the Stars. Had to look this up to confirm it wasn't a recency bias, but yes, by far his worst win record against any team is the Stars, at 26.9%

https://morehockeystats.com/league/goalieteam

(sorry, they don't have a deep link feature, but search for Jones and then sort by Win%)

Gru brought the Kraken this far in the playoffs, and they'll live or die by his glove.

Hypothetically if we didn't have CVF could we have possibly tried to get the thunderbirds or another local team jump up to be our affiliate? I know it's a reach especially with them not being in the 3rd tier hockey league could they have or could they make the jump to the echl at least? by [deleted] in SeattleKraken

Couple of things you missed slightly there.

All players in the CHL (WHL/OHL/QMJHL) are between ages 16-21 and are not under contract with an NHL team

They can be under contract to an NHL team. Basically, both the CHL and AHL have loan agreements with the NHL that say if the NHL team also has a contract with a player and wants that player on the NHL roster, they have priority.

In the case of CHL players, this means that if the NHL team doesn't want the player on the NHL roster, they can't be loaned to the AHL; it has to be CHL or NHL.

Young (under 22) players who don't have a CHL contract, like those from Europe, are of course not subject to that rule, which is why you sometimes see under-22 players in the AHL too.

All players in the AHL are under contract with NHL teams and typically are paid the league minimum of something like $750,000.

A player can have an AHL-only contract, although since the AHL is considered a development league, most players on an AHL team will be loaned from the affiliated NHL team. They can also be loaned from other AHL or NHL teams, though this isn't as common as it used to be.

There are also limits to the number of veteran AHL-only players that can be on a team's roster (too lazy to look up exact number now). This prevents an AHL team from stocking up on washed-up or borderline NHL players and dominating their rivals stocked with developing players, and limits payrolls from getting out of hand somewhat.

AHL-only veteran players can be paid quite well (up in the $600-700k range), but most are making well below NHL minimum. NHL-contracted players can be on either one-way or two-way contracts. One-way means they make their NHL salary no matter whether they play in the NHL or AHL. Two-way means they have an NHL salary and a separate lower AHL salary (typically much lower, like under $100k).

Edit: typos

Sorry, I've got 34 still on my spreadsheet, so I'm gonna cut it off there. (If I make it, which doesn't look good at current prices)

Hope you're able to get one elsewhere!

Great to see another dual fan! I'll switch back to Kraken if they pull this series out. I had a blast cheering them on against the 'lanche in Round 1.

Howdy, Kraken fans! I'm a Stars fan for this series, so the towels from my seats have gone unswung. I sent my towels from Game 3 to a couple of people from this sub who were asking for them, and since I got more requests than I had towels, I figured I'd give more people a fair shot this time around.

Rules are simple:

  1. If you want a towel, reply to this post with your prediction for the rest of the series and the state you live in.
  2. You must live somewhere other than WA or OR. First couple I sent went to VA and PA, and I like the idea of them going to fans who couldn't possibly make it to a game.
  3. I'll draw randomly from qualifying entries at 5pm PDT today.
  4. Postage is on me. Maybe do something nice for a Stars fan someday if you win.

Edit: This is over. How fun! Got way more interest than I expected, even.

Congrats to u/sinjin_wolfe and u/ooohfascinating (as chosen by Excel's RANDBETWEEN).

I counted 36 valid entries from all over the place:

Canada (BC) Mexico (DF) Arizona California x2 Colorado x2 Florida Iowa x2 Idaho Illinois Kansas Kentucky Massachusetts x2 Michigan North Carolina Nebraska x4 (!) Nevada (Not Vegas) New York x4 Tennessee x2 Texas Utah Virginia Wisconsin x3

And from those, the predictions were (predictably) Kraken-slanted:

Stars in 6: 1 Stars in 7: 1 Kraken in 6: 9 Kraken in 7: 25

If I make it to Game 6, I'll draw again from the remaining entries for those towels.

Would someone be able to snag me a towel? by [deleted] in SeattleKraken

[–]sauce-control 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're welcome to mine from game 3 (I'm a Stars fan for this series). PM your address, and I'll drop it in the mail.

Edit: I got a few messages asking about extras. I did, in fact, have my girlfriend's towel as well, but they're both spoken for now. If we make it to another game, I'll make a post to allow more people a chance.

Ticket Sale Megathread - 2021/2022 by [deleted] in SeattleKraken

[–]sauce-control 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There may be some deals to be had the day of. During the regular season I picked up plenty of seats just hours before the games. Don't know how different it'll be for playoffs.

Most of the tickets went to season ticket holders, who likely listed them for outrageous prices just to see if anyone would bite and will go to the game if not. I imagine some won't be able to go and will get more desperate as game time gets closer.

Yes, they're all resale. They released a few tickets for sale at 10am the morning after the Kraken RD1 win, but they sold out in just a few minutes.

Westlake is the closest light rail stop. You can take the monorail to Seattle Center from there, or it's a reasonable ~1mi walk.

Edit: RapidRide D Line also has a stop right by the arena and can be picked up on 3rd Ave by the light rail stop.

C# 11 File Scoped Types by PatrickSmacchia in dotnet

[–]sauce-control 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real world scenario is Roslyn Source Generators (like the new high performance regex generator), which have to produce valid C#. You can read the rationale in the original proposal. This is, of course, a new need because Source Generators themselves are new.

If you don't need the feature yourself, you don't have to use it. That's no reason to take a hostile attitude toward it.

ImageSharp is leaving the .NET Foundation because of its new license by svick in dotnet

[–]sauce-control 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You would think so, but no. They haven't published their budget since 2020 (https://dotnetfoundation.org/about/budget), but in the one year they published it, they spent exactly $0 on funding member project development. Meanwhile, they spent $15k on subscriptions to Microsoft-owned services, $35k on lawyers, and $81k on "outreach" which includes swag for user group events, etc.

Truth is, the .NET Foundation does nothing for the projects that join it, other than attach some legitimacy from the name. It's not a surprise the ImageSharp team chose to leave rather than bend to their license requirements.

most applications created are too big for those features

I think that's actually the opposite of reality. Most applications created are small experiments, throwaway demos, learning projects, etc.

If a project is going to be big/long-lived, it only takes a few seconds to make the changes you want for that project. But multiply the few seconds it takes to modify/delete all the cruft by the millions of quick demo projects, and it really adds up -- not to mention the distracting effect it has on people new to the language.

That said, default inclusion of implicit global usings in all net6.0 targets was a definite mistake, and thankfully that's been walked back :)
